But they are pre-owned so whoever tried them didn't like them.

I bought a pair and they definitely operate better than the replacements bought from other suppliers, they catch first time and stay locked.

The last one bought from elsewhere fell to pieces after half a dozen uses.

Never had a problem with Mk1 or Mk2 over 28 years. Got better things to spend £50 on.

Mk1 latch system was rubbish and I have seen cars with the mk2 latches let go at the wrong moment on lots of occasions.
A robust latch that is more tolerant of a bit of wear or misalignment seems a good idea to me.

You've got my attention! How is this new improved catch better/different? The reason I ask is, both my catches will not stay latched and a fix would be great.
                  Cheers Ian A

-2.5 - my Mk1 left catch is OK but the right one is rubbish. The video comparing new and old is very good.

+3 The originals work fine, if not, adjust them.

You are a lucky man if you never had a problem with that useless swinging hook on the mk1 frame. A hopeless piece of design that even Triumph saw the need to change.

Like most things that people modify/change there was/is not a lot wrong the original. My car has everything pretty much as original and it works ok. But things wear, get bent, adjusted incorrectly, "better" - note the quotes - bits come along. There have been pleny of posts from owners having problems with hood catches not holding properly, dropping the rear hoops into the well and then jamming making it difficult to put the hood up. As with all things, cooling systems, brakes, carbs, voltage regulators, ignition systems etc. Etc. You are free to fit whatever you want to your car. Just because one person doesn't have a problem doesn't mean another won't and see this as a solution. How many who have said "no problem with the original" have "uprated" something else such as lights, gearbox etc. which in my opinion are not necessary as there was nothing wrong with the original, if working as dssigned?

I note the item has been relisted and now states "new". I guess it was a mistake in the old listing.

I can't trust the passenger side catch on my Mk 1 so use a velcro strap to bind the hood together 'just in case'. Driver's side catch doesn't have a problem.
These new catches look good but 49 quid is a bit steep.
