The last one bought from elsewhere fell to pieces after half a dozen uses.

Like most things that people modify/change there was/is not a lot wrong the original. My car has everything pretty much as original and it works ok. But things wear, get bent, adjusted incorrectly, "better" - note the quotes - bits come along. There have been pleny of posts from owners having problems with hood catches not holding properly, dropping the rear hoops into the well and then jamming making it difficult to put the hood up. As with all things, cooling systems, brakes, carbs, voltage regulators, ignition systems etc. Etc. You are free to fit whatever you want to your car. Just because one person doesn't have a problem doesn't mean another won't and see this as a solution. How many who have said "no problem with the original" have "uprated" something else such as lights, gearbox etc. which in my opinion are not necessary as there was nothing wrong with the original, if working as dssigned?
I note the item has been relisted and now states "new". I guess it was a mistake in the old listing.
RogerWhite TV8 BW35 no mods and now a Dolly Sprint to keep it company
So many cars, so little time!

These new catches look good but 49 quid is a bit steep.
