Just getting to grips with all the little things you find out when you get another Stag. Helicoiled 2 of the threads that bolt on the Power steering pump and got both chokes to open today but there is one thing I cannot track down. When I am driving hard around a sharp left hand corner I am getting a loud noise almost like a dog's howl. It lasts a couple of seconds then goes when I straighten up. Its not a metal on metal noise but a constant pitch howl.
Doesn't make the noise if I coast or braking around the corner or driving around a right hand bend. Very loud and repeatable but I cannot decide if it is coming from front or back but it is definately N/S
Any ideas? and before some wag suggests it I have not run over a pooch! - Alan
OK I know I have spelt cornering wrong but cannot change it!!

Hi
What you describe is what I have experienced on a couple of modern cars with power steering problems. But cannot see how this could happen in a stag as belt slip is a higher pitch shrill. Perhaps pump is on its way out.
Hopefully others can advise
When the noise is occurring try pulling on the handbrake...hard which if it alters the noise or removes it should prove that the noise is coming from the rear, and then you need to investigate for bearing or hub problems.
It's not some daft like the brake disc backplate bent a bit too close to the disc is it? They make a lovely howl if there is any movement in the wheel bearing and the corner is right
