Hi everyone,
The misfire on my Stag has been diagnosed as due to low compression on 2 cylinders aggravated by the use of French supermarket petrol - ethanol. My Stag specialist is saying that whilst the problem could be valves at 68k miles a rebuild would be justified. Cost estimates depending on what is found is a mere £5k to £6k. The advantage is of course I should 'know' I then will have a good engine all sorted.
Two thoughts come to mind. Is the cost about right?
Are rebuilt secondhand engines available from SOC members for less?
Would appreciate advice, comments and offers
Nigel
Further thought - can I sell and cut my losses and find another Stag that is better? ( I have probably already spent more on the car than it's worth).
