Water jacket / transfer housing mod?

    Hi all,

Whilst researching parts prices for my forthcoming engine rebuild, I noticed on the Rimmers website it has a modified water jacket (or was it transfer housing - I can't remember?) for sale. Does anyone know what this mod is and should I consider it please?

    Thanks as usual

    Regards

    Mark

Perhaps you could go back on their website and confirm exactly what the part is that you've half remembered and then we could advise.

Think it is where the water transfer housing at the back of each head has a tapping to reroute water flow.

Pretty certain that there is a deal of info about that particular mod somewhere here.

One such mention is in this thread: http://socforum.com/forum/showthread...ansfer+housing

I thought it was for a capillary temp gauge, not sure though:

Thought i'd seen the explanation somewhere - the link above has the following at the bottom of the page:

          Product Description

For combined oil/water gauge. Specifically modified RH head rear water jacket to accept water capillary tube from gauge.

Not sure why you need a modified unit for that, I fitted my capillary bulb into the standard unit with an adaptor?

Durr, that's the answer, sorry. Thanks Tony. I notice Rimmers have new heads on sale to order now at £3175!

Yes I notice that is for a PAIR.
In the light of the work involved, somebody is not making any money at all.

Would you like to make a small production number of heads at scarcely 1500 a shot inc seats and all the machining?
That sounds more like "dumping" than doing anything long term.

Rimmers don't have any heads for sale, and certainly not at that price. I suspect they haven't updated that for a while. If they have, I'll buy the lot.

oerrr, not my business of course but isn't that contrary to trading standards in the UK?

They say "Available to Order from our supplier. Order NOW" ... and then go on to say they are on back order and no money taken until dispatch ... I am thinking this is probably a bit of crafty market research to find out if there is any interest in producing them.

It's a bit off topic and all that but what is in fact the status of this millenium head?

unless they are doing some work SOCTFL aren't aware of they will take about 5 years to get close. they will need to produce patterns, find a foundry who can cast them, find a machine shop who can machine them and then assemble them with cams etc. The trouble is (as we have reported in the SOCTFL agms for the last 3-4 years) is getting suppliers to do it. They either say they can and can't or say they will and they won't. Hence it is slow going......

In other words it sounds like to me all the people who were previously got co-opted into such a project got their fingers badly burnt.
The pain level was so high, they are still in outpatient waiting for skin grafts to heal?

Frankly it sounds to me like this...
