Going back to the initial thread, my Stag developed an intermittent misfire when in France back in May. The problem was finally diagnosed as low compression on 2 of the 8 cylinders. I had been using French supermarket fuel the cheap stuff. If I used 98 Octane the problem disappeared. My Stag specialist has advised that I try and avoid using supermarket fuel here as well until the low compression is sorted.

I would avoid E10 like the plague! A mate of mine borrowed my Stag for a few days touring and thanked me by refilling the tank with E10. It hardly ran, with low power, pinking, hard to start and ate the O rings in the bungs in the float chambers. He thought he was doing me a favour!
There is a Qld government web site that you can enter your rego and they will let you know if your car is suitable for E10, the response from the Stags rego was "your car may not be suitable for use with E10", funnily enough I got the same response from the rego on my diesel Mistsubishi!
Personally I only use 98 RON but will use 95 at a push. The engine is far happier with the higher octane.
Occasionally I get hold of some AVGAS 100/110 LL from the airport, now the engine loves that stuff, far more responsive! Exhaust goes a beautiful light grey colour and the spark plugs on removal are a light sand.
Avoid the "Green stuff"!
regards,
Raoul
