Sticky connector

Hi all

I have a poor electrical connection on my right hand front side light. The spring in the Lucar connector (that pushes against the bottom of the bulb) seems to have become a bit weak, though it may be corrosion in the area where the connector slides in and out (Ooh, err, missus!).

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can clean up/loosen up the internal part of this sliding connector?

Would rather repair than buy another holder as they are only sold as complete units (holder/bulbs/lenses etc) at £120. Expensive solution so I'd like to find another way.

I clean my connectors using a mix of vinegar (some say white is best but any old stuff seems to work) with as much salt as it will dissolve. Then try and allow the part to soak in the fluid for 5 - 10 mins. You will then have nicely etched clean parts. However, to prevent the process from continuing, you then need to dip the part in a solution of baking powder & water (or bicarb of soda) to neutralize it, and finally rinse off with water. You would be surprised what ingenious stands you can come up with to support a small container of the fluids to enable soaking of the part, assuming you can't remove it.

Naturally prior to doing any of this full PPE must be put on and a full risk assessment undertaken.......

I had the part off to diagnose the problem, but have put it back on again as I don't need sidelights at the moment.

Will get around to it shortly, once I've stopped driving around for the winter.

An alternative contact cleaner is soak in Coca Cola or Pepsi or similar.
