    Hi 4x4 and all,

Look up Blockley tyres, they make the 185 x 14 tyres. I bought an e type that when in the wet would easily loose the rear end if I put a bit of power on coming out of a roundabout. When I spoke to Winspeed in Guildford who specialise in old jags they told me to loose the pirelli tyres and fit the Blockleys. They made a big difference and stopped me looking a t#at to the cars behind when I did loose the rear end.
Look up Blockley tyres and tell me your thoughts.

Impressive claims. Never heard of them before. It would be interesting to hear of any experience fitting their 185HR14 to a Stag.

I am told the guy that started the company has a big collection of classic cars, he struggled to get period tyres for his cars. so decided to provide them himself. Don't quote me, he is from middle east descent, the picture of the head and shoulders on the sidewall of each tyre he supplies is a picture of his grand father!! So I am told...

          Dave.
I have no experience of them myself, in fact I was unaware that they do Classic tyres. However, I have friends with vintage vehicles of all shapes and sizes, and many of them fit Blockleys, and are very pleased with them.

Having met the company owner I am not sure the story is correct. Saw the company at a show last year, the owner knows all about tyres and has 14inch tyres for Stags, but I think only in 175.70 and only one tread pattern, or a whitewall. I have in mind to buy a set, he says that if you are not absolutely delighted bring them back.
Price around £80.00 each, having followed this thread now I am not sure what to buy, Kumho seem half the price, and what size....185,or 195 or 175 who knows.

We'll be there on National day Richard - so you can have a look at the Vredesteins avec lumps and bumps.

Despite the info and link in post #12 putting my mind a rest a bit, I'm not sure I'll go with the make next time - for the Stag or the TR.

They do two 185 x14 HR tyres, one is whitewall...
I like his ethics, it's not all about selling you a tyre just to make money!!!!!!!

Bravado Automotive do (or did) whitewall tyre inserts (the ones I have fitted to my car, as shown in pic below), and in year 2000 they cost £40 for a set of 4, but don't know what the current price is, or if the company still exists.

Has anyone fitted AVON ZT5 185/70R14 H 88 which National Tyres have showing as a Premium Tyre, on offer at £48.91 fully fitted
Labelled as Fuel efficiency "C" Wet Grip/Braking "C" and Noise level 70db
Seems an OK tyre manufacturer and supplier of a good all rounder and good value to me as I only use Stag about 1000 - 1500 miles per annum
(Present Tyres are mixed manufacturer's and all 2007 or older so ready for a new set as advised at MOT last week)

I think 185/70s are a bit on the skinny side. If you are going for the 70s rather that the original size supplied with the car, I would advise 195/70s. There are plenty of good makes available in that size at sensible prices. They will look better in the wheel arches and give a bigger "Footprint" on the road.

Mine's got AVON ZT5 tyres at the moment, I couldn't get the 70 section at the time so it's 60 section. Sticks like **** to a blanket when I throw it around, but I'm going for 80 section next time. I've done about 20,000 miles on mine in the last two years.
I like AVON tyres, but I've just ordered Uniroyal Rainexpert.

I've been thinking about tyre choice far too long - Having been pointed to the General Data section of the ROM which gives data for Goodyear G800 185/70 HR 14 Tyres I've finally chosen and ordered the same size tyre as above but in the AVON ZT5 from National Tyres. Hopefully being fitted next Tuesday morning as I'm too busy to go until then

Great price but a word of warning:
The reason Vredestein wouldn't help me is because I should deal with the supplier - unacceptable in my view as the product itself is the issue.
Camskill would take a look at the tyres, with no guarantee of a positive outcome of course, but at my expense to get the tyres off the wheels and couriered back to them. I worked out it would cost me almost as much as the tyre did in the first place to get them, off, shipped, and refitted - even if they "found" in my favour.

I will pay a few pounds more to purchase tyres for a local supplier/fitter in future.
Wouldn't make any difference. All manufacturers insist complaint tyres are returned via a tyre dealer. That is the industry process. You have to either buy more tyres or wait for a decision not using the car. If in your favour you would get an allowance pro-rata to remaining tread depth. In fact most tyres returned to manufacturers are not manufacturing defects anyway. Not saying this would be the case with you but under inflation and kerbing are the two main culprits. Having spent a life time in the business I know this for sure.
