    Brake squeal

    At my wits end with constant brake squeal.Ive read loads on here about it but everything I've tried thus far has made no difference.It had a slight squeal when I purchased the car 6 weeks ago so decided to fit new pads/pins and clips with the anti squeal shims.Did that applied with liberal amounts of copper grease and that basically did nothing.Took the shims out yesterday and now it's even louder and more extreme.Any more thoughts on the matter would be extremely and gratefully recieved.

    Hi Mark,
    I had the same problem following a replacement of the pads and sought help here.
    I ended up taking it all apart and "slapping on" more of the copper slip and apart from a few squeals around the tight mountain roads of Switzerland, at the ESM, the problem has gone.
    But if you had a squeal before your change maybe the issue lies elsewhere.

      Try chamfering the front and trailing edge of all 4 pads. This can help.

        Dave,I fitted mintex pads and they were already chamfered on both edges,a bit too much for my liking.Think I might have sorted it now,took the mintex off and refitted the original ones ( looked like new anyway) and fitted the shims with plenty of copper slip on em.Theres a slight amount more play with these ( mintex were very tight) ,took it for a20 minutes blast and quiet as a mouse.FINGERS CROSSED.

          There was another post on here recently about grinding/filing the edges of some brands of new pads to make them fit better (looser ?).

            It doesn't make them 'looser', it takes off the leading edge.
            I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

              The metal backing, not the pads. I recall a FM with issues around "red stuff" pads that were resolved by relieving the metal backing of the pads a little.
              Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
