Hi there everyone ,

Getting really frustrated spending time and money , viewing cars , that turn out to be rubbish.

Can we as a club, have a section where members can post pics , findings and only viewable by paid members, not guests.?

Would benefit all members, i believe.

Thought we already had this in the sales section of the magazine and on the members area of the website? Perhaps this is an indication of the rise in price of the Stag such that the better cars are commanding higher prices.

Did you investigate the two cars I posted about at M and M Autos?

The thing is Jimmy on 10 grand Stags unless you are very fortunate on finding a gem they are going to need work. Maybe set your financial limits higher or your expectations lower otherwise you’re never going to buy one.

I bought mine for £7000 and it needed £5,000 worth of work to get up to fairly good mechanical condition - no bodywork done. If I had bought a £12,000-£18,000 one I would have done much better as I could have got one with much more done to it and in much better shape. Mopo is absolutely correct from my experience - raise your budget or lower your expectations - they are 40-50 years old!

I was very fortunate to find a car that had a total rebuild by the previous owner who took it off the road for almost 10 years which of course means that he had all the expense and graft. It stands me at around 18K but is valued at more by the SOC. I think to a certain extent you get what you pay for and unless you're dead lucky you will need to put money and time into the car,assuming you have both and the expertise to carry out the work.

Hi Jimmy
When i got mine from a dealer i had an independent engineers report and valuation done covering all aspects of the car including road test. This was back in 2017 September, i don't think prices have shifted about too much since.
I still have the report and would be happy to PM this to you if you would be interested to see it, it would give you a bit of an idea as to condition and valuation for these vehicle from a independent examiner, bearing in mind it was from a dealer so prices would be up somewhat from a private sale.
Some of the concerns he pointed out where rectified by the dealer at his cost prior to me agreeing to by it.

In what way is not for you. What are your expectations for 10 grand.

have a look at it on their web site, blow up the bonnet pic, I have viewed 3 Stags this year one at £10k and others at £12k.

I expect a really good one for £12k really good.

I will post the pic of the one I should have bought last year at £6500 on Autotrader , red MOD owned for 18 years , only needed a repaint but I had 4 cars and I thought nah , I will find another one.

If you are not 100% looking for a Stag engine car this one IMHO looks like quite a good early and well modified car - bodywork is very good and probably worth a look but if you want a Stag engine £15,000 seems to be the start point for a reasonable car.

With all Classic cars, it pays to buy the best you can for the money. If I had known what I would spend in getting my car up to a good presentable order I could have saved myself serious money by forking out more than I could afford first time around. Twice I have bought classics (Alvis and Stag) and in both cases I have had to get rust removed, metal replaced, resprayed, engines rebuilt, differentials replaced etc. You would have thought I would have learnt after the first time.
