Sounds like a Jape.. But you never know, lots of different Ford engines.

My daughter gets all sorts when she goes to the repair shop, However she is not daft.. She just says no then brings it to Dad for a second opinion..

Then Dad usually does it... Hmmmm..

I have ordered a TPS and will work on sorting that out, also finally have the components I will need in my head and an idea of what each thing does..

      I'll need:-

      TPS
      Water TS
      Air TS
      Bypass valve,
MAP sensor (maybe onboard the Megasquirt)
      Wideband 02 and controller.
36-1 trigger wheel and sensor +EDIS
      Fuel pressure regulator
      injectors and fuel rail
High pressure pump and return piping.

      Did I miss anything?

I looked at the Emerald and like it but as I live in the USA Its probably best to stick with the Megasquirt as it uses a lot of locally sourced items and is cheaper, especially with shipping!

If your going for a trigger wheel you can get a cut down Dizzy as you can do away with it and give you more space.
If your going MS why not get it with 4 ignition out puts and run direct waisted spark rather than edis that will simplify things and another control box not needed
Are you going swirl pot or in tank Pump? I have in tank Pump and its silent, not sure how noisey the swirl pot and separate HP external pump are.

As far as I can see the emerald has an injector scaling section but this controls all injectors, not individual items.
Could well be it was a jape by the ford dealer in order to scam more money from one stupid enough to buy their product.
Unless Terry is going fully sequential which if he is using MegaSquirt would need the top of the line MS3 he will probably be using a lesser one like the MS2 extra which will be using Batch firing so i don't think you can "calabrate" with the software as they all fire together. Maybe the dealer meant get them Flow tested where by you select 8 injectors that deliver the same amount of fuel for a given number of squirts.

I am following this with some interest as I am planning to fit EFI to my blue stag this summer.

If you look in Stagdad's albums you can see how he modded his tank to take a HP pump, which is how I plan to modify my tank. I have found a pump that looks suitable (if the sierra one that I have isn't) on the car builder solutions website (www.carbuildersolutions.com) part no INJP3 which does up to 120l/hour at 3 bar (45psi) which I think will do the job. Appreciate you're in the US but I guess you can get something similar

I am leaning towards keeping this simple, so yes MS2 or even Microsquirt. I can always upgrade later! I'l look into the cut down Dizzy, that didn't occur to me.

As I already have my hands on an EDIS module I'm probably going that way. From what I have seen unless I go MS3X or emerald using 4 spark outputs and a trigger wheel involves quite a few modifications, the outputs need pull up resistors or drivers, EDIS works out of the box as it deals with the trigger wheel, timing of spark plus dwell and only needs the single output from megajolt. EDIS-8 are pretty easy to get over here and have the reputation of being bulletproof.

On the fuelI was thinking just an external hp pump, if it works for Neil... I don't remember the mini one being particularly noisy, but perhaps I will need to move it outside of the trunk. -- Mind you with straight cut drops and a turbo it wasn't the quietest of rides! But at that price I'll need to look into the Range rover pump. But is that picture above showing welding is needed on the tank to use it?

Terry, yes I welded in a full depth tube for the pump to sit in, more work initially but makes the whole thing simple and does away with a lot of plumbing. The rover pump only pulls 5A so wiring is ok without running another pump feed.

On the subject of in tank pumps while mine worked well i realize i have made an error in that when i'm down to about 1/4 of a tank and i give it a big bootful up a hill i get a big embarrassing cough and i now think i have identified 3 rather fundamental flaws with how i installed it.
                1. The large tube i have set in the tank is sealed at the top and i didn't drill a hole to allow air to vent out Doh ,i reckon it never filled up properly. Rectified hole now drilled
                2. I left a small gap at the bottom of the tube for the fuel to flow in, i think this is a bad idea in hindsight and one small hole would be better. Ordered some flat spring steel to form a sleeve at the bottom to close this off.
                3. The return fuel i feed back through the old feed into the old cup. I think it would be much better to return it to the tube with the pump and as i now have a hole at the top it can overflow if it gets too full. Will weld a bit in (once i've filled it with water first.
i reckon those changes will make a big difference.

The external pump using the standard pipes suffers the same surge problem on a nearly empty tank when booting it up a hill.

It is going to be difficult to get around this when the fuel pick up is at the front of the tank, but IIRC the original cup in the bottom of the tank only had one or two small holes in it to allow fuel to flow in at low levels.
Fitting a swirl pot would no doubt help, or just refill the tank when it gets to 1/4. Doesn't give problems on the motorway until you are down to the last half gallon, but by then you are driving very steadily anyway!

I have a swirl pot, no problems, more complex but avoids tank welding.

But I love tank welding John. There would be no fun without it lol.

Anyone got some info on the cut down dizzy? I'm assuming its just a matter of getting a dizzy and modifying it, I'm in the UK soon so should start looking for one I guess.. as I would prefer to keep the original in one piece if possible.

                              Terry

Another thought.. Would a TR7 dizzy work? More likely to find one of those over here..
