Hello all SOC members, I just want to introduce myself, although I've been a member for a few months, I've recently returned home from working away and this is my first post. Had a look at the old girl today and she's starting to look a bit sad (I mean the Stag not the other old girl in my life). Working away, I wasn't able to get a rego inspection done (MOT equivalent) and so she's off the road. I am attempting a light resto (but may be more than I expect)and have started to replace the rain gutters, drivers side only so far. I'm just fitting my SOCTFL replacement, I had a little bit of fettling of the replacement part, but not a great amount, mainly where it dog legs in at the bottom. It was standing off a good 5 or 6mm. My question is what is the recommended gap or stand off from the windscreen frame. I'm sure I read 3 to 4mm, somewhere in the forum a while ago, but can't find it again. Also, where is the rain meant to go. I assume it is meant to flow over the bottom end of the gutter (assuming sealed satisfactorilly) and into the gap between windscreen surround and top of the wing and so, getting to my next question, how important is it to seal the very bottom of the gutter where it tucks in behind the wing. Is seam sealer satisfactory to seal this part, I know brazing is also used, but maybe at this position. I should probably try to get a photo to show where I mean (haven't advanced far enough yet in using the forum). Thanks.
