O.M.G.....dry engine oil dipstick..URGENT helpies plze

Just been checking my plugs and carefully removing them one by one to clean..Took the dipstck out for ease of access and its bone dry....
Clearly needing to put oil before too much else, I have no 20/50...
I have 5 litres of Morris classic motor oil SAE 30..Used to use for my vw beetles...Okay for my stag?????
Til I get some 20/50 at service time

Eurocarparts are doing a good deal for SOC members. Valvoline 20/50,...very good oil.

The correct oil is 20W50, use oil with a spec such as API/SE CC or better, about £15 to £20 for a 5 litre can. Commer Classic etc.

Hi Ray, don't run it on straight thirty, it'll get too thin when it's hot, also the Beetle wasn't supposed to use detergent oils and that won't be good for the Stag. Martin.

If you need to put oil in the engine NOW before you can get anywhere to get the proper oil then read this.....http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/

If you can understand it.... I think it says that you can but the oil will only be at the right viscosity when the engine is cold. (When its hot the oil will be too thin and your oil pressure will be lower than normal which isnt good news because it probably isn't lubricating all the bearings properly) I guess if your just topping up then its likely to be OK as long as both oils are mineral based. Drain it as soon as possible and change the oil filter at the same time.
Better bet is to do what the others have said get the proper oil before you drive it next and dont risk engine damage.
I wouldnt take the chance but then I wont even use engine oil twice even if i drop a clanger and have to drain new oil out to make some other repair (eg reseal sump pan gasket on my Frontera following oil pump change. Drained the new oil out threw it away and repaced it with fresh new oil.)

I've put it in for now as I had to run the engine after cleaning all the plugs up to try and get her running abit better..I have service parts coming tommorow so will get some 20/50 before I go out and about...and change the oil for the proper stuff.

Martin...if you read this..any clues how much to fix a valve spring, Its still tapping noisely....I checked to cam etc and there is nothing obvious , so without taking the head I am going to have to assume the worst,,
