early wiring loom .... later type alternator, anyone know how to convert it??

Have replaced my MK1's old butchered wiring loom with another, however, the "new" loom has the wiring and plugs in place for the early type of alternator ... whereas my car has the newer 18ACR fitted. If it's possible i'd like to keep the later alternator on the car, can anyone tell me how to adapt the wiring so it will work properly please?
