    Clutching at it

The clutch on my car has always been quite sudden in its engagement, but it doesn't slip and I've got used to it. Recently it has become more of a switch (either all the in or all the way out) but still doesn't slip. I think the main cause has been oil on the plate. The rear of the cam covers have been leaking. I fitted new gaskets and rubbers but the drivers side still leaked...oddly more so after the engine was turned off. It turned out to be drawing oil between the paint and the cam cover in one place where the paint was separating. Anyway...fixed that some weeks ago and it seems to have stopped leaking.

Back to the clutch. I'm going to make it one of my jobs to do this winter...replace the clutch. Can't bring myself to do it while the sun's still shining and I can drive the car, so I probably wont make a start for a few weeks yet. I've not changed a clutch on a Stag before (last one I did was on my Scimitar Coupe...and beside the fact that the gearbox weighed the same as a Chieftain Tank it was pretty straight forward). Is there anything I should be aware of? I've heard that some clutches sold for Stag's are not really suitable. I intend to buy one from Paddocks (they're usually very good).

I would also be a good time to change the seals and oil in the gearbox. There is a little bit of transmission noise, but I think that's from the rear end, and you can only hear it with the top up at speed.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Chris
