    Blending in water based paint?

Following a little mishap, I had to do a small repair to the paint around my doorhandle.
I have some of the original metallic paint which I applied with an airbrush, not too bad but needs blendng in.
Trouble is, when I tried Tee-Cut, the water based paint just dissolved so I have had to do it again.

Should I use very fine wet and dry, but then how do I get the polish back before I apply the clear coat if polish removes the colour coat?

If you are using base coat metallic with lacquer top coat the only way is to blend in metallic so it doesn't show 'too much'.

Flatten the whole panel with wet and dry and blend the metallic on the area needed, drifting out to blend with original then spray the whole panel with clear.

Thanks for the advice, but is doing the whole door really necessary for a couple of square inches?

What I really wanted to know is, is there a way to "cut" or polish the base colour coat before I apply the clear top coat?

Why do you want to cut or polish the base coat?

You can cut the base coat and I have done this before but if you just blend the base coat in then if you don't want to spray the hole panel with clear, you can blend that in too but a 'line' or edge will always show at a later date no matter how good a job is done at first.

Some people accept this but I can't.

I had initially masked around the area which left a line that I had hoped to tee-cut out, this line will correspond to where the pin-stripe goes anyway, that didnt work so now Ive air-brushed without masking, but I still have a bit of a raise towards the edge that I was hoping to flatten out. I guess the undercoat was a bit lighter than originally used which is why I have had to go a bit thick with the colour coat to match the colour with the rest of the door.
I wanted to keep the area Iam spraying as small as possible.

When it hardens, I will just use very fine wet and dry to smooth it out then if necessary give it a final light blow over.
