    Fuel pressure relief valve

To eliminate hot starting issues I really like the idea of fitting a fuel pressure relief valve this weekend as recommended by Mike Lingen and others.

I just want to be double sure where I am connecting things though -

    1. Where exactly do I fit the tee piece to the plastic fuel delivery pipe from the tank, i.e. before or after the fuel pump?

    2. Mike refers to the spare pipe on top of the tank - does that mean the unused connector next to the fuel delivery connector (currently sealed with hexagonal bolt/cap or the long metal fuel return pipe running to the fuel filler?

Sorry to be dense just trying to minimise error potential :

    Many thanks

In case Mike is not around, I can answer.

    1) After the pump
    2) The unused capped off connector.
A 0.6mm dia MIG welder tip makes a good restrictor in your new bypass line.

John. I am "Around" now and then, and thanks for answering on my behalf. My old S.U. pump keeps ticking away without any problems, so I have not yet needed to fit the bypass. The only non standard stuff on my car at present are a Powerspark and a head...... I am always amazed at all the things other owners find it necessary to fit to make the car useable. It must be an age thing.
            Mike.

that's a good idea to use a 0,6 mm MIG weldrer tip John.

Stag 36587: don't forget to install a little fuel filter in the hose to the restriction!

How many forum members have installed such a restriction system and how is the result?

                Klaus.
It cured the hot staring problems when I had a Weber.

I installed it exactly as John said several months ago. The only downside is that the fuel pump never stops.......

Hey John, I've not suffered from any hot starting problems with your Weber fitted but I've got a filter king fitted. Had the car tuned at TR international and with the weber fitted and the new prop the car is driving the best it has in over 18 years of ownership, now where's that big chunk of wood I need to touch :-)
Only minor issue I've got is the new electronic fuel pump I've fitted looses its prime after the car has been stood for a couple of days, which means I have to wait for it to prime before starting it.

I have fitted and electronic fuel valve with a timer so when you turn off the ign it opens the valve for 5 seconds to release line pressure and then closes again. I looked at normally open valves ( which are fairly rare for petrol usage) but I wasn't keen on the fact that they are energised to keep the valve closed all the time the ign is on and the engine is running. The solenoid valve gets quite hot which I thought wasn't a good idea in a fuel line. Graham
