We are in the process of restoring XCE 357L which has been in the family since 1989 but after 268,000 miles was in need of some TLC. Things have gone well so far, the body work restoration is almost complete ready for the spray shop but we have a small problem.
There was a rust problem on both rear wings forward of the wheel arch, two new panels have been fitted to the lower part of the wing where it butts onto the sill and all is good. We have now found the source of the rust problem, there is a gutter which runs along the rear edge of the body where the tonneau cover sits, This gutter slopes forward and just behind the 'B' posts there are two small spigots attached to drain tubes. These drain tubes should presumably vent to the road under the car but in this case they had been pulled back and were venting into the void at the bottom of the wing panel hence the rust. We only found this when we stripped the interior trim and cut away the rusted wing panels.
Our problem is that we cannot find where these tubes vent to, the only holes in the sills are too far away, the tubes are too short, they might have been cut but as they are both exactly the same length we are inclined to think not. Does anyone know here these tubs should vent to?
We can provide images of the tubes and location if necessary.
