    Indicator flasher unit.

    Morning,

Anyone tell me the location of the indicator flashing unit on a Mk2, the manual says it's behind the parcel shelf, there is one there but it's not the indicator or hazard unit. I can hear it behind the dash but just cannot see or feel it even with the dash out.

    Many thanks, Jeff.

Mine is a late Mk2 and it's mounted in a clip on the dash above the steering column

Mine's a late Mk2 and it's where ithey say it should be - behind the parcel shelf on the 'component mounting plate' - as is the hazard flasher.

I should know, as I've removed the 'component mounting plate'to clean it all up and check all is well

If it's not there I'd just carry on doing what it sounds like you've been doing - follow your ears

      Cheers

      Julian

Yep, between the speedo & rev counter. Sometimes hanging loose if not in the clip

          Hi Jeff

Mine is just below the speedo hanging on the wires

Could it be mounted to the back of the speedo?

I think that might be the voltage stabilizer.

I think that is the voltage regulator you are referring to, and it doesn't tick.

Your'e right, another thing, with the ignition on the indicator doesn't flash, but if it does, it's very, very slow, battery full as engine will turn over well, is this common/normal?

                      Hi Jeff,
Mine was also very slow when I bought the car, and there are several articles in old Stag mags, about replacement flasher units that flash correctly, which I believe is about one flash per second.
I can probably find which alternative cars they came off that suit the Stag, if you have no access to the technical reprints - just let me know.

Thanks Peter, if you could that would be great, the hazard flashes too fast, I assume that unit can be changed too, Jeff

Peter at LD Parts sells an electronic flasher that goes at the right speed all the time.

It does speed up when engine running but assume that's because of alternator power boost?

This I covered a couple of years back. Use the electronic flasher from a Montego, or an R8 model (89-95) Rover 214/216. Straight swap and you just need an extra earth wire for the relay.

You'll get a Fab flash rate whatever the battery voltage and you can buy the relay from your local factor for a couple of quid.
