    Item number 121093038263

Found this on a well known auction site.
For anyone thinking of doing away with the points and capacitor ignition system, it comes with everything you need even the base plate, it’s a magnetic system so should be very reliable, and comes from a British company. ( Although l’m guessing it’ll probably of been made in China )

I thought that the new Lucas coils were to be avoided?

    Cheers

I have one of those PowerSpark things fitted just now because the 35-year-old Lumenition started acting daft. As soon I can get a new optical sensor the Lumenition will be back in.

Safer to bet on the Grand National than which of the above parts will fail first.

          Good morning all!

This is all very interesting, but haven’t we discussed the pros and cons of this particular product numerous times recently, with some rather strong opinions in each camp? Just saying...

          Cheers,
          Joakim

Either way, the various opinions about Pertronix/Powerspark/Accuspark/etc etc has been fought over many times and that tends to end in a stalemate and nobody is any wiser.

I suppose that this is the inherent problem with forums; lots of opinions, feathers getting ruffled, but no conclusions. We had it recently with the merits of ZDDP in engine oils. I still don't know if the VR1 that I use is still one of the best, or if Duckhams is a good choice!

Sorry for drifting off-topic. I'm about to fit a 123Ignition distributor; does anyone have any experience of setting one up on the Stag, particularly the programming?

I must of missed the oil debate, but in my experience its not the type of oil so much but the oil change/oil filter intervals that is more inportant, these engines are not modern by modern standards, they're not highly tuned at all, so unless your going to enter your car at Santa Pod or entering the Le Mans 24 hour race any good quality 20/50 multigrade will be perfectly adequate, but don’t use a modern oil ie 10/40 as these are thin oils for modern engines with much closer tolerances, so would not be suitable for the stag engine.

Opinions are what forums are about though, surely?

For sure it is, but when opinions are splurted out as in post #4 then we’re not talking about a constructive debate anymore. Very few of us have any real facts or research or industry expertise to back our opinions up with, so it would be helpful to come up with something a little less antagonistic. That’s where I’m coming from anyway.

Should read "Had to hand type emojis."
