    Conical distance, rear diff

    Good evening all,

A friend of mine, member of Triumph Club de France as me, is currently renovating his rear diff. In that operation, he needs to know the ‘conical distance’ in this rear diff, see attached picture, would anyone know this measure ?

    Thanks

I have no idea at all, but I have rebuilt around 6 diffs by measuring the thickness of the old bearing and making sure the new one is shimmed to the same height.

It is even possible to do this if the old bearing has been destroyed in the process of removing it.

I usually end up grinding through the inner bearing race to get the bearing off the pinion, but it is possible to refit 4 of the taper rollers evenly spaced between the inner and outer races, then measure the thickness of the bearing. This has always worked for me.
