    Stag keys

Can anyone recommend a key cutter In Maidstone or Ashford area to cut new keys for my stag.

If you’ve got the right blanks (the key cutter probably won’t have them-LD parts has them) any key cutter
should be able to do it
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

Yes, I bought my blanks from LD parts( just over £2 each) and then took them to my local Timpsons. The manager said they weren't allowed to charge for this service so I got them done for free but now recommend his store to anyone who needs keys done. As Goldstar says you'll be lucky if your local keystore keeps blanks for 40 year old cars

It's worth shopping around once you get your keys in the post. As I said, Timpsons said they weren't allowed to charge unless they supplied the blanks but another shop in our town said it would be 5 or 6 six quid simply to cut the blank I supplied. A bit steep for less than a minute's work.

I bought NOS blanks and took them to the Village in Bramhall Timpsons cut them and wouldn't take any money as they didn't supply the blank so I put a Tenner in the charity box

That's interesting, so I guess that must be official Timpson policy rather than just our local manager being genial. However I've sent several people to that store got get keys cut as I promised I would.

I had good service from WilcoDirect https://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/produc...y-key9/KY-KEY9

The guy who cuts the keys is very helpful.

But his machine cost more than a grand, his rent is probably £15kpa, business rates £10k, public liability insurance £1k, need I go on?

Only slightly related to the topic, but I rate Timpsons as an absolute stalwart of the good old British High Street. Brilliant service, prices and turnaround times. I bring shoes across to UK when I visit to get them resoled at Timpsons, and there always seems to be a branch wherever you go! Fortunately, they do resole shoes that weren't bought from them!

I guess that, as soon as Amazon offers key-cutting and resoling, they'll sadly go west too

I put it down to the fact that he's a miserable old b@stard and always has been, which probably explains why I haven't been in his shop for years. He's one of those who thinks he's doing you a favour by mending your shoes, whereas the manager at Timpsons couldn't have been nicer.

I guess some Timpsons are better than others, Even if they charged you a nominal fee-say £2 that would benefit both parties, especially when it's unlikely they would stock 40+ year old blanks.
