Inlet Valve Guides

I have started recon on a head set and have removed to exhaust guides but the inlets are giving me grief. I made a tool that fits into the guide and tried hitting with a hammer no joy I then put the head on a hydraulic press all blocked up etc but it did not move and I did not want to break the casting. Any suggestions?? Would heating the head up help?
