WANTED - Tax exempt Manual Stag less than 100 miles of Ipswich Suffolk

New to the club so please forgive me if this is not the right thing to do - but -
I'm keen to find the above but am struggling unless I go to Lands End or John O'Groats.
I'm looking for a usable car - not quite a daily driver but I want it to be used by my family.
Preferred colours are white, green, dark blue and Pimento type red - sorry -I don't yet know the accurate colour names.
I am mechanically adept but don't want to take on a project although I fully appreciate the nature of these machines means they require on going maintenance. ( I've had a number of Land Rovers in the past so am used to it)
Budget - will consider spending upto £15k but only if its worth it .
    Any help would be appreciated.
Please call me on 07763 156813 or pm me.

Thanks and apologies again if this is not the right thing to do.

    Hi Andy
Welcome to the club. Sorry I can't help you with a car as I won't be selling mine but good luck in your hunt. If I do hear of anything suitable I will let you know. You could try contacting Tim Hart the Suffolk co-ordination or Chris Liles Norfolk co-ordinator they both might be able to help in your search. Both their contact details should be available when you login to the main site. If you can't find them PM me and I will give them to you.
    Cheers Rob.

      Hi Andy
Just a thought, have you looked at the 'cars for sale' section? Might be something there that takes your eye. Good luck with your Stag hunt, hope you find the right car for you.

        Hi Andy,

I was quite specific when I was looking for my stag. I wanted a 1972, white manual overdrive. I bought a 1974, red auto. The advice I got at the time was buy the best car you can get, various bits can be changed.

My car is taking a holiday at Robsport next month to have its special needs gearbox changed to a manual with overdrive. Like you, I wanted something I could drive rather than a project.

        Good luck with the search.

i know its stretching the 100 miles and an auction is probably not on your radar, but there are 3 MOD Stags at the Brightwells Auction in Leominster next Wednesday. One has the RV8 and one is a project, but one does look interesting even if it needs recommissioning? Google it and you can se the details and some photos.....

No connection and I'm not selling them, but it may give you an idea?

Thanks for all the advice - I now have my first Stag - and one with some minor celebrity status as it was featured in a head to head classic magazine road test in 2001 against a Scimitar GTC - and I have a copy of the mag!

Great news Andy, congratulations. Tell us a little more about it and, more importantly, did it beat the Scimitar?

As usual, these articles don't want to offend part of thier audience but it concludes that the Scimitar is the better car -but doesn't do it with the sense of occassion as the wonderful souding, effortless and smooth - riding Triumph - and goes on to say that if you asked Stag owners why they bought one 9 out of 10 would say "because they always wanted one"
Article was in Classic and Sports Car Magazine April 2001.
