    Stag Register Club

Has anyone heard anything about the Stag Register Club? A friend of mine joined last June and hasn't had anything come through as a news letter since? despite chasing and speaking to the club secretary. In fact someone actually put the phone down on him when he asked.

    Any news?

You may have seen this response somewhere else, but worthrepeating toothers who might be tempted to part with their hard earned cash!

In response to your question, I don't know, but havingjoined last year, I've decided the Stag Register it's a complete waste of money - most expensive windscreen sticker I've ever paid for! The members only website has never worked and I can only conclude that as far as the newsletter is concerned 'periodic' means something greater than 12 months! Appears to be 'run'by a disgruntled and disaffected ex-member (or onlooker) of a more established Stag Club?

      Hi Andrew

Got to agree with Seaside Bill, total waste of money. I joined a few years back, never received any news letters and could never get into the members section on the website, never received a password.

        Hi Paul and All

So, is there an official line? Has the club folded?

          Hi Andrew

Not sure, but the website is still up and running.

Yeah, last 'modified' March 2006 & the membership area hasn't worked since Jan 2006! No Stags for Sale, nothing. Web links don't work, I can't see anything there.

Mike Wattham (Chairman - Triumph Stag Register) has posted on TriumphStag.net claiming the Register is "very much alive and kicking" andimplies he hasclose to 1000 members! If that is the case, thenquite a fewSOC members must also be TSR members - I wonder what benefits (beyond a nice windscreen sticker) we get for our TSR subscription?

Relieved to read that others have had problems with Stag Register Club. My experience with them has been exactly the same as Seaside Bill's. Got to agree with Paul save your dosh.

Yes - I too paid my membership for three sheets of A4, a sticker and nothing since. I didn't renew.

The reason that I joined though was that TSR members get (or got) 10% off atPaddocks and I recouped more than the membership fee.

Paddocks toldme they offer this discount because TSR advertise Paddocks free of charge! (where I don't know)

Maybe the mighty SOC should allow Paddocks to advertise for free.I may not be typical, but I don't seem to get discount anywhere else for my subcription, quite the opposite, parts prices for stags seem to be going mad and competition between the major playersseems to be non existent.

I find that of the bunch, Paddocks and Robsport seem to offer the best prices for most things, and are pretty helpful in the process, with Rimmers generally being something ofa rip-off. Someparts you can pick up at local motor factors, even halfords, and both Paddocks and Robsport have always been cheaper than that option, even including the postage. Just my experience.

Generally wouldn't disagree, but in defence of RimmersI've consistently had good service fromthem albeit at a price. Relatively speaking they are a big outfit carrying a more extensive range than most (including remanufacturing items) and cater for a wide range of ex BL carsso their overheads are probably higher than many of the smaller suppliers, not to mention their extensive catalogue which isan excellent resource . I think we're lucky to be well served by suppliers and I'd also add LD Parts and Tony Hart Racing Services tothe list of those I'd recommend - both run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts

I have tended to drift to Rimmers more over the last couple of years, initially since I also have a Sprint. Their prices nowseem more competitive than 3 or 4 years ago - plus they have more sales than Nortern Upholstery. 15 - 20% off nowseems the norm.

I live about 25 miles away so tend to call in. I've had some great deals from them, If you say someone else sells the part cheaper they usually knock any extra off.

I have no problem with the suppliers and agree with the comments. However, my point was that as the largest single marque club in the world (claimed), it seemed rather ludicrous that despite an annual subscription, there seemed to be no supplier benefits in respect to parts sales discount, whereas the stag register seemed to possibly have something in place. Whilst there are local meetings and the organised events, not all of us with families or work commitments can manage to attend these, so to us the membershipof the SOC mirrors somewhat the issues highlightedfor the stag register, we get a magazine. I'm sure this will bring heaps of criticism upon me but Ifeel strongly that this is an area that the SOC should look at. Only recently there was an article inthe magazine in respect ofmembership and the way the clubshouldlook to change with the times. Here is a simple way of starting that process. Surely, I cannot be the only one who feels that the club can be more proactive in supporting it's members (and maybe some smaller suppliers) in respect of parts pricing, which after all can only be a good thing in keeping stags on the road for many years to come. Other clubs seem to manage this very well, so are there lessons to be learned? And yes, I know of the SOCTFL, but thenhow often do we all need to buy wings as opposed togeneral parts.

                              Tim,

Sounds a reasonable argument. Why not send it into Rod Boulding for inclusion in the magazine? You never know, it might trigger something. You should at least get an official response from the committee.
