    Tyres?

I read on a previous forum that Faversham recommended Nankan tyres - I found these online and looks like a great price:

65 profile rather than the original 70 - would that be a problem?

    Hi

It will put your speedo out and increase the gap from arche to tyre but other than that should be fine.

I had Nankangs on my they grip really well wet or dry.

I can cope with that (still haven't got round to fitting new speedo cable!)

they look good on there - the gap increase isn't noticeable...

Standard tyre size was originally 185/80 x 14 and I believe speedo calibration is based on that size. Many folks fit 70 series tyres these days as 80 series are hard to come by and this makes the speedo read around 6% higher if you stick with 185 width. 185/65 will increase this so the speedo is reading around 9% higher than standard. You could go wider to 195/65 but the speedo will still read about 7% higher.

205/70/14 is about the closest 70 series tyre to can get to standard circumference but some people have had clearance issues based on previous posts about tyres.

All these assume standard 3.7:1 diff of course.
