Radio Panel.... how easy is it to remove?

Just wanted to get a quick heads up on how easy it is and how to remove the wooden trim around the radio.

I should have a new one turning up shortly, and wanted to get a feel for how easy the job is.

    Cheers

    Hi Kpm,
I've had to do this and it's not too difficult.
However, you do have to take the whole centre console out.
This is because, the radio fits from the rear (well on standard cars and radios that is).
All the relevant switches and knobs have to be removed, so that the console can be pulled forward to gain access.
I've included a link to the relevant page on the Rimmer's site

    I hope this helps.

      Hi there,

WhenI didmine there was noneed to remove the centre console. Remove the coin tray complete with its plastic plastic strip by carefully levering it up and out. This exposes two screws which hold the woodenradio surround. The four bezels which hold in the choke/heater/heated rear window/cigar lighter need to come off, and the radio out obviously. These items are more fiddly than difficult. Full details are ona previous thread whcih comes up if you punch in "radio removal" in the search facility on here.

      Hope this helps,

      Peter f

Often replacement Choke cables came with 'non removable' knobs. If you are unlucky enough to find your car fitted with one of these (like mine )then the choke cables have to be disconnected from the carbs and pulled thru. Threading them back thru can be a headache if the ends are the slightest 'frayed'

If they are frayed, then I'd suggest disconnecting the inner and the outers and then taping them, so that the inner cannot slip into the outer.
I had to replace the choke cables, because I cocked it up. So I learned this tip the hard way.

Just what I did Frank - after I learned the hard way first time round when I got the car about 7 years ago.

Thanks for the help gents... all done! I did have to take the choke cables off, but mine played nicely and went straight back through with no issues!

The rest of mines not that bad, but it is put to shame by the new panel. I'm really pleased with it. I've just dropped them an email to see if they do any other parts of the dash.

Not sure about actually supplying the veneered wood, but they can re-veneer your dash for about £250 if you send it to them.
