Sorry for the long postbut this insurance piss take really gets my goat .Regards Tony
Sorry to you all ,but forgot to mention my insurance premiums are paid up front . The majority of companies charge at least 10% for the abillity to pay by direct debit. This will increase your actual innsurance pemium. However most Insurance companies farm out your d/d agreement to another company so effectifly they pay your insurance company when you pay your monthly d/d IF you default on your payment or the company who are collecting your d/d's goes down the pan you could actually find yourself uninsured because they have not paid your insurance company If you think iam wrong please let me know. By the way when you sign up to a credit agreement i/e a d/d for your insurance you are adding to your credit history with Experian/ equifax so this could perhaps affect you yor credit score in the future if you are ducking and diving ....no what i mean arry.
My wife and I had always insured our cars through Norwich Union, nowcalled (AXIA )all our married life.
When we bought the Discovery we phoned them and told them to change over the insurance from our previous 4 x 4 to the new one expecting a slight increase if any. They quoted us double what we were paying for the previous car, and bare in mind that we insured our other two cars through them, including the Stag, which believe it or not worked out at 300 Quid alone. We pointed this out but they would'nt budge. Oh and they refused to insure the horse box. ( no claims within the last 6 years )
Now insured through NFU ( National Farmers Union ) for a huge amount less and this included the towing of the horse box c/w horses. How they can afford to throw away buisness god only knows. Stag now insured through classic car insurance co for 130 Quid. All in all we saved a packet
When my wife sold her MG and bought a her 206CC she got a good quote from AXA only to discover that the no-claims she had earned on her MG didn't count because it was a classic policy. They wouldn't insure her with zero no-claims bonus and charged £25 to cancel the policy.
We thought we would be left with nowhere to go but pay well over double with someone else, but after speaking to Swift who insure my Mondeo they agreed to 'mirror' my no claims on the Peugeot so she ended up with a competitive quote. She still isn't earning her own NCB but that will give her an extra incentive not to divorce me just yet!
BTW the renewal on my Stag insurance with RH has gone down a few quid since last year..small victories eh?

When I retired last year I had to arrange carinsurance for the first time in decades (I'd had a company car and wife doesn't drive). Found the best deal from a name that I knew was the Co-op and, generally, they seemed very good.
Renewal time this year and the premium nearly doubled :shock:Rang them and they agreed it was surprising but, after an hour on the phone, couldn't come up with a better price.
I went on-line and found a policy that gave me the same cover at about the price I was paying last year - guess who? .... Yeah, you've guessed - The Co-op:?:?
Rang them back and asked for that policy and they said it's only applicable on-line :?:?
