    Electric aerial wiring

    Evening All,

Just spent the last 3 hours wiring up a new stereo to replace the old ford stereo that was in there.

Ripped out all the old PO wiring and started afresh.

Only problem I am having is with the aerial. The wires on the aerial are black, red and blue.

The instructions go on about black red and green:X:?

I assume the black is earth, blue to blue aerial control on radio, and this leaves the red.

Is it permanent live or switched live? Can it be joined to the permanent or switched wires used for thestereo, or another source?

    Thanks....Al

I had a similar problem and was on the point of buying a new electric aerial until I came across this: http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/v...=5&t=14195

It helped me sort my problem and I hope it does the same for you.

Thank you Dolomite owners club - at least we're in the same family

    Cheers

    Julian

        Yep, that should do it.

On mine the earth was simply connected to one of the aerial fixing screws (of course, the first time I tried it it didn't work cos of a bad earth:?). I then had two wires (don't remember my colours) and one was permanent+ve (not just ignition controlled) the other I connected to the switching feed from the radio.

        Cheers

        Julian

          hi al
just wired one up today red is perm live black earth and the third colour blue in my case goes to the auto ant feed on the head unit. this assumes you have a fully automatic aerial.

          cheers grahame

Yes Al the red is permanent live; this ensures the aerial motor always has power to wind itself down when the other wire (blue/green) is off. The blue/green shouldbe wired to switched output on radio if it has one, or ignition control or manual switchif not.
