    colours of Stag interior

    Hello everybody,

I want to refurbish the interior of my Stag. It is a light brown colour, but I am uncertain whether it is beige or saddle tan. How can I find out?

Kind regards, Dieter - from Germany.

    Hi Dieter,

I've been going through this interior trim colour issue a few times. There were some good photos here nut, as is often the case, the user then deletes them from Photobucket and they disappear from the forum too.

Beige (74) is a REALLY light colour and there are reports of the Aldridge trim not being a very good match.

You used to be sure !!!!

    Hello,

Lucky you - your interior is in black. Mine is in that strange "saddle tan" colour. ...........

    Kind regards, Dieter.

      Dieter

As yours is a Mk1 then if the interior is original then it is most likely to be Tan as beige was not introduced until around 74/75.

        Hello,

The funny thing is that the covers of my seats and interior were once painted with a sort of laquer, which is clearly saddle tan. Underneath is the original, slightly darker and less "orangy" colour.

        Kind regards, Dieter.

That's very interesting! My black laquered interior upholstery was once chestnut brown. When I look at the paint, it seems very professional (no brush marks) and it extends into all hidden areas too which seems to indicate it was applied during build rather than afterwards by an owner. The two headrests are tan overpainted as well.

It couldn't be that Triumph changed the interior colour for customer orders by overpainting, can it? No......, but then.....:?

            Hi Dieter,

This is only a partial answer to your question but it also expands upon something dasadrew said. I hope it is of help to you.

This pic shows a new beige seat trim from Aldridges against an original beige door trim. You can clearly see the colour difference - I think the new one is far more 'pink' than the original which was more 'yellow'.

I always thought that Saddle Tan was a darker brown, but Idon't know for sure.

I'm sure you'll know this but the trim number is also on the chassis plate and Saddle Tan is 43 whereas Beige (which appears to have replaced saddle tan in May 75) is 74 (assuming your trim is original!)

            Cheers

            Julian

Mine's saddle tan - as you can see, quite orangey:

                Hi Wendy

I was searching everwhere for that pic :?I remember you kindly posted it some time back in response to me asking a similar question to Dieter !

                Cheers

                    Hello,

This is what the interior of my Stag looks like. Unfortunately the "saddle tan" is peeling off and the darker beige (?) starts to show.

                    Kind regards,

                    Dieter.

I hadn't realised yours was a Mk 1 until I saw the head rests - that being the case, it would never have been Beige (74) from the factory.

But who knows, somebody may have retrimmed it

Julian, can you tell me if you notice the difference between Aldridge and the original beige. I was going to change my seat bases in the winter months as there are a couple of nicks in both sides

                          Hi Mike,

I can tell the difference and it does bug me I'm enclosing a pic of my car (which has Aldridge door trims and original seat covers)although, to be honest, that doesn't make it look all that different :?

The pic I posted earlier was from Greenstag who kindly supplied me with some bits and I think that shows the difference better.

Maybe I'm being excessively fussy but it's my car, so I can be

If you ask Aldridges, they will sell you a small sample and you can make your own mind up. I'd ask them for as big a bit as they can to get a good idea though.

                          Good luck. Cheers.

                            Hi Dieter

For what it's worth here is a pretty bad picture of my interior before I changed the carpets - it is BEIGE, not TAN (although all the carpets on the tan photos previous seem to be also beige....). This is all original from a 1976 model.

Hard to tell by the pics Julian but to be honest it do's not look to different. But deffinately food for thought. Don't want to have to change a full interior for the sake of two seat bases.
