    Brakes

    Hi all

Just getting a bit cheesed off with a brake problem.

Decided to get a recon servo as my existing one looked a bit ropey even though my brakes were working fine, eventually got the old one out after reading about having to move the clutch master cylinder out the way,put the new one on with a gasket, tightened the four nuts, bled the brakes at the PDWA valve but couldnt get nothing, brake pedel kept going to the floor. My mate tells me the master cylinder must be at fault,so I buy a new one, just bled the brakes again still pedel goes to the floor and no brakes.

Has anyone any idea what I might have done wrong bearing in mind the brakes were working fine before all this?

    Thanks for any advice.

Hi, not sure what you mean about bleeding at the PDWA ? Bleed at each wheel, furthest first, do it gently and you won't upset the PDWA. If you've done this, get hold of a Gunsons Easybleed and pressure bleed them. Enjoy. Martin.

      Hi Martin

Im only guessing but I wouldnt have thought I would have any air further than the two brake connectors on the PDWA switch on the nearside bodyunder the bonnet if ive only changed the master cylinder.

think you have got to rule it out under the circumstances- when I did mine I bled from all the wheels - no harm in changing the fluid anyway. How did you do it from the PDWA? maybe it did not get all the air out ?

You WILL have got air into the system ! There's no bleed nipple on the PDWA so I can't see how you did it? Any work on the master cylinder will require a full bleed. Martin.

I slackenedboth brake pipe connectors off,got someone to operate brake pedal, got all the air out untill I got clean fluid through, made sure I had a soaked cloth behind the pipe connectors to neutralize the brake fluid.

              Hi Mark,

I changed my master cylinder recently and I found that I did get air out of the back brakes, so maybe it would be a good idea to bleed them anyway. I now have a rock solid pedal, but still too much travel for my liking!

I will bleed the whole lot then and give it a go.

                Thanks for all the help.

Nib, just changed my master cylinder after brake problems. I bled at the master cylinder unions first then one of the rears and both fronts (as also changed hoses). To get the PDA to centralise I then bled one of the rears, then took the pda switch out, inserted a nail and gently bled NSF until I felt the nail move into the notch and tightened. I guess if your PDA switch works then can use warning light instead.
