    QUICK!

I've fitted my near side door window today, using the wrong window channel seals, reasonably happy with the results, even the powered window lift works. However.
Now, I've some questions about some small niggling details. Attached is the photo pulled from a previous topic.
    1) With the window frame tightend to the inner skin by the top fixings, the outer 'waist' height seal strip barely touches the glass. Is this common?
    2) The length of above seal, as supplied, overhangs the verticals each side of the glass. Should I cut it back to the width of the glass?
    3) The upper most, or the bit you see of the st.st. profile in which the 'waist' seal strip fits. Should there in turn be something between the profile and door skin?
    4) Should there be a seal between the quarter light frame and the outer door skin?
    5) In the photo. Is that putty or similar sealing the leading edge of the quarter light frame to the door skin? Does it come in red?

Photos of everyone's window quarter light should answer all the above questions.
Now quickly, everyone, go and get your camera's!

    Hi John

if question 1 refers to the weatherstrip 622415 you have to trim it slightly so that the lip touches the side glass for it's full length but to stop it shrinking leave about 10mm on each end that can be held against the window frame.

I fitted mine first then trimmed the lip so it fitted the length of the window - you will find it should then make good contact with the glass.

    Question 2 is Yes

Question 3 - the strip should git into the chrome moulding and there is a felt strip on thei nside of the glass.

Question 4 - there is no seal although i used some black mastik on the chrome trim when i fitted it and just wip off any excess.

Question 5 - There is a small rubber wedge that isat theback of the window frame - the white putty you show is probably mastik? i used black mastic on this gap

    Hope that helps

I'm grateful for your response, I'm also glad that you attached the graphic.

Don't those seal strips look long?

Especially when the profile can accommodate a seal its full length. Wouldn't that negate the need for mastic? I agree the inner felt strip needs to be shorter.

What are the 'door finishers' supposedly riveted in place? My MK2 has never had them, should it have? Did they fulfil the rubber wedge and mastic function for each end of the door?

In so far as the manual's 'fore and aft' and 'in and out' adjustment, I'm dammed if I can find any, the top half is basically fixed! Apart from the movement in over sized holes and the hight adjustment permitted by the quarter light gearbox. The adjustment in the lower fixings providing only an angular adjustment pivoting the frame about the top fixings.

Could you provide further details relating to the rubber wedge?

        Hi John

I will take a picture of the wedges this evening and post, when i fitted my weather strips i found that if you have the rubber the full length of the window + Qtr light (same then as chrome strip) it hold the frame out slightly so i trimed mine to fit the window (with the retention tabs this was the length of the window only) and with the Qtr light i used a thin bead of mastic on the chrome strip?

The Door finishers, as far as i know, were never fitted to any stag?

When fitting the windows etc the most important is to have a good water curtain fitted to the inside as you will never stop water getting into the door body but the water curtain will stop the door boards geting wet and also stop water entering the car.

          Thanks Gary!

Curious to read your comment about the seal strip holding the frame out slightly. As I have stated my frame is pulled to the inner skin side of the frame opening by virtue of the top fixings anyway.I don't know how, but is there any merit in spacing the frame off the inners skin with washers or something back towards the seal?

What hasn't been mensioned is the actual gap of the opening, if you are happy with your sealing arrangment, could you measure the width of the gap?

Saying that, I know there has to be a minimum distance to enable the frame to slot in, and I remember all to well how tight the gap seemed when fitting my frame, paint scrapingly close, so I don't think the gap on mine is overly large.

Granted that to make the door water tight is close to impossible, but you have to agree that the Stag's reliance on a plastic membrane is pretty crap!

I measured my gaps before taking off the door skins to replace them. Just found the measurements:

            Front + Rear 22mm
In the middle and where the rear quarterlight channel is, it goes in a bit to 20,5mm on one side and 21,5 mm on t'other.

            Drew
            The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

                  Thanks Gary,
Did you source the 'wedge' or was it with the car? I don't see it listed.

As for the outer rubber seal, I've fitted the offside window frame now and the rubber on that side makes contact fine, so good it turns inside out and goes down into the door opening when the window is lowered! Any fixes?

                  John.

                    Hi John

You can buy a length of tappered rubber from Seals Direct

                    http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/s...epartmentId=68

very good selection of seals, i'd go for the sponge rubber one's.

Had the same problem when i fitted mine - i found the best thing to do was to spray silicon onto the seal, just move it away from the window and spray onto the Seal itself .
