What's this in my tank?

Hi Folks

Took the petrol tank out tonight just for something to do...no actually I've got a bad petrol smell and the culprit as suspected is a couple of pinprick holes (tomorrow's job)

Anyway whilst emptying the tank I found this. Any ideas what it is and is meant to be in there (possibly attached to something)

It's does not look like the float of a standard tank fuel sender but it could be a look a like.

:?is it a tube,looks a bit like a plastic fuel can filler neck they have a shoulder like that one end for the plastic nut to connect to can..strange one

It's hollow so not a float and the float sender seems intact. I was ering towards a fuel fiiler neck...must have been in there a while

its a bit from the end of a petrol can, which must of fallen in when being filled from a can at sometime in its life
