    power steering pump position

    Good evening gents,
can anyone tell me what is the correct position of the power steering pump. mine seems to lean over a lot more than some i have seen in pictures posted on here. mine must be over at probably 45% but some of the ones in the postings seem to be upright. is this a modification or just variables on the models.
it does seem to me that upright is better for filling and keeping oil in the reservoir.
mine doesn't lose any oil but i cant keep it full to the mark on the dipstick as this would come out of the cap.

Hi Marcus, I think we need a picture for this one, it sounds very strange, all Stags had an identical mounting, is it somehow mis-fitted ? Martin.

I will take a picture in the morning and try and post it in the evening. i don't think its misfitted as the holes in the bracket are just sort of there.

I think that type of steering pump was used on different models, not just the Stag. The filler bit was at different angles depending on which car it was meant for. I suspect yours might have been on a different car originally.

Well that's my guess anyway :P

As long as it works I wouldn't be unduly concerned by it!

Could it be that the belt fitted is a longer one that causes the pump to be further out?

            Hi Marcus

I had same problem when I purchasedat what seemeda bargain price what was described as a reconditioned Stag PAS pump off eBay some time ago. Although it looked identical -when fitted the filler was at an angle rather than vertical. As you describe it was difficult to fill and the level reading was useless.

I never got to the bottom of it and replaced it with the correctStag pump, but the general consensus was it likely to bea 2500S PAS pump. I'd sell it if I could find out what car it was for.

            Regards

            Andy

the belt is i think the right size, i think it sounds more like Andy's and Dave,s suggestion of being the wrong pump. as it works O.K i think i will just leave it.
its nice to know why it looks wrong though.

2500/2000 pumps seem to have the same part no as the Stag according to the parts manual. The internal gubbins do as well.

Pully's got a different part no though.
