    My engine is now running

hi guys, i got the stag going after having to replace needle valves on the carbs. i videoed it as i want your opinion is it running well from the sound it makes?
i'm going to have a tune up done on the 31st. i homed in on the water pump as its making a noise now, i cant remember if it did before or is its normal.

    what do you guts think?

    Thanks
    Ben

Sounds just like mine and you don't have the air filter on.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

      Hi Ben

Microphones tend to amplify noise and pick up things you would not normally hear so considering this I think it sounds fine but I would check your valve clearances when possible as they sound a little rattly.

      Good luck

        Hi Ben,

Well done on getting it going. The tickover is a bit fast for an auto. You should be aiming at no more than around 700-800 rpm in neutral.

        Great step forward though.

hi dave yeah i had to have the throttle stuck on a bit as there is still no accelerator.. i got the thing from halfords but now the cable does not return correctly instead it just comes away from the bulkhead...

sorry jeff not with you? i'm new to al this.
          valve clearances? how ? what?

Hiya Ben, sounds a bit tappety as Stu said, and idling a bit fast, but not much wrong. Valve clearances are the gap set between the camshaft and the buckets that operate the valves, to allow for expansion. If you're unfamiliar with the setup it's best left to a Stag specialist, there are loads on here. Cheers, Martin.

That runs nicely Ben, just idling a bit fast as others have said. I always think my waterpump makes a little bit of noise too, but it may be just Stag paranoia!

the idle its self is fine, that was not idling i had abit of pipe jamming the throttle open as there is no accelerator at the moment.. although when i reversed it in the garage the rpm went right down to the 850 mark...
when its actually idles the rev counter shows it as spot on the mark... and its calms down alot.. ill post that tomorrow...

the tappety sound.. im guessing that its expensive :s
when i get it tuned of of this month ill as the guy to give it a once over, he specialises in old cars as he has all the tuning stuff so he knows what he's on about.
