Speedo cable outer

Can anyone recommend a good method for re-fitting the speedo cable outer please?

I realise it crosses over the top of the gearbox in the transmission tunnel as it enters on the driver's side and connects to the gearbox on the passenger side, butwhere should it cross over?

I wish I'd left the old one in and just replaced the inner but ripped it out...:?

got a very mucky job coming my way. mmm...

Well, on my A type gearbox the speedo cable connects on the drivers side. The cable emerges through the transmission tunnel on the drivers side passes along the gearbox on the same side and connects onto the gearbox towards the rear.
