The Mk1 Escort is certainly on a high price wise along with most other Fords of that period.

Someone I know bought a "rust free" mk1 Escort shell with no running gear, trim or id 3 years ago for £1800, hes spent the last 3 years welding it and replacing panels all to a very high standard but has still got to paint it, source and fit the running gear trim etc and then purchase an id for it so god knows how much that lots gonna cost. Its a basic 1300 2 door shell but hes fitted the RS style strengthening panels and when completed it will be a nice motor which at todays prices and demand for the cars would sell well as an RS replica or something along those lines. £65000 for the Escort on e-bay is steep but as itsappears to a genuine Lotus version I guess someone will buy it. Not me though.

Cleevewood Garage often have some rather highly-priced cars for sale - i suspect if you have a glance through their stock you will find some other larger than expected prices

They can justify the £65k price tag.

Use all the search engines you like, there won't be another genuine twin cam Mk1 this original for sale.

If there were loads available the price would be crazy, but there aren't.

Rumour has it that the last time money passed hands on this car it was over £30k

Even a mint original mk1 RS2000 can fetch over £12k

I can think of a lot of other things i could spend 65k on and it would not be a mk1 escort regardless of rarity. However, a number of old fords are increasing in value, in the early 90s i restored a mk1 GXL 3000 capri which i bought for £600 and sold for £3600 (it was nice though). Ive noticed that these are currently changing hands for £7500 plus for a good one.

Friend of mine had an RS1800 MK11 escort in the late 1980's white with a blue stripe, sold this for a mint MK1 RS2000 + £5000 coming his way, I would hate to think what a RHD MK11 RS1800 is worth now as they only made a few

This one is now sold, but was listed at £50K .... ouch !
