What does this nob do on dashboard?

I've figured everything out now on car bar this one little nob on bottom left hand side of instrument panel. Its above steering wheel to the left and its by the oil and water gauge. Its a little black nob with white markings on it, it turns left and right but doesn;t seem to alter anything on mine. I;ll get a pic ina bit

I;ve searched all over internte but can't find anything to describe what it is

it is the Rheostat which alters the brightness of the instrument illumination - most people leave it on the brightest setting (which they would liketo be brighter)

obviously you will only see it with the lights on and easier to see when the cabin is dark

I think you are talking about the knob for dimming the instument lights, I just leave mine on the brightest setting (which is not very bright!)

Some folks have by-passed the rheostat so that maximum brightness is maintained. If this has been done to yours Simon then it will not do anything but you won't tell in the daylight.

If it were a Porsche it would be the knob looking at the dashboard I would be concerned about

indeed but then rather than upgrades to the cooling I;d have to get some bleach to tint my hair with and a big medallion as well
