Cam Covers

Hi Guys,
I've searched the forum for an answer to this question.
I've found a thread that was started by Vmad in November 2008. However, it didn't end with a definitive answer, so I'm creating a new post.
Does anyone know the correct/original colour of the cam covers; and a supplier (if the paint exists)?
If that's not available what do the 'concours' show cars use as a substitute?
I doubt mine are the original colour but who knows.

Frank I have never seen anyone identify any particular colour of silver I think it really up to yourself how bling you go. However it seems that the boys that have had them painted use the powder coat process. Mine could do with a tart up but I'll wait until the winter and decide whether to have them powder coated or chromed.

Hiya Frank, the original colour was a rather unpleasant silver with a slight yellow tinge. I think you'll have the same problem finding it as the air filter grey. The concourse winners I've seen have varied from a Ford silver to chrome, hope this helps. Martin.

Hi Mr. Moraystag,
Thanks for the reply.
I've got a couple of chips in the paint, but I don't think that I'll be able to match it (I didn't paint them myself).
So I'll have to re-paint the whole of each cover.

Martin I've been told the near as dam it originalair filter colour is Ford Dove Grey. I got them to make it up at Halfrauds, but have'nt sprayed the air filter yet so not sure what it looks like.

The original was grey with a faint tinge of blue. Dove is a good colour but not "original" Martin.

Ford Stratos Silver is considered to be very close

Agree .......i used this colour on mine - i was very happy with the result (until a fuel leak messed the nearside one up )

Hi Guys

I used Halfords High Temperature paint (Aluminium) and it looks good also it is petrol and oil resistent so has lasted.

Mine are Ford Stratos silver, properly prepped and painted it should be petrol proof.
I have thought about black crackle, any thoughts ? Martin.

I have mine in black crackle finish,its the only bit of my engine bay that looks decent.

I painted mine with VHT spray (very high temperature) I bought from my local motor factors,im pleased with the results.
