Dax is the one to go for as they offer the best bodies
There is a company in Hainault Essex called hallmark cars that are Cobra specialists and have been around for years and always have Cobra's in stock and can offer loads of advice on them also

I always hankered after a Cobra, but the lack of decent weather protection puts me off. At least my Tiger has a proper hood thats easy to put up when it rains.
In my opinion, they are overpriced for what you get. A properly built one with a decent V8will fetch over £20kunless you're lucky. Make sure they are properly registered as a Cobra Replica; Q plate ones best avoided unless very cheap.
Why not go the TVR Chimera route if you want brute?

My friend has been looking at the Hawk Cobra kit car, which I believe is a lot cheaper than Dax. I have been to Dax and had a test drive a few years ago and always believed through my friend they were the best so I'm not sure why he's looking at Hawk, I'll ask him today.
He wants one almost finished so he can finish it off how he wants. There was a lovely one on e bay a few weeks ago but totally finished which didn't suit him. I would have gone for it personally.
Rover V8 engines seem the cheep but good option, but they can have 5 - 6 litre yank engines.
Have you never seen Mark Evans on Sky 'a car is born'? He built a Cobra replica, very good programme.

I did think about a Cobra but it would have meant having more money tied up in a car than I wanted or getting rid of the stag. Classy car though.
Not sure what you want from a car but if it is pure performance and noise at £10k this is a bargain.
£240 for me to insure it as well not garaged and 5000 miles. Didnt like the colour though and decided I was a bit to powerful for me - wimp or what!

Hi Sukh,
This is the reply from my friend, hope it helps. Don't forget, this is only his opinion and he's not always right 'cos we disagree a lot (which is healthy).
'Loads of Cobra 427’s on ebay all goodish but the Sumo has always been considered to be the cheap entry level (I won’t touch one with a barge pole!). Dax and AK are sound manufacturers. The Hawk is the best, mainly due to chassis construction but they only do the smaller (prettier) bodied 289 not the fat arsed 427.'

The Dax Tojeirois a good car. The AK has a good following too. There is the Madgwick, nee Southern Roadcraft car too, which has more of a pedigree than some. Gardner Douglas too produce a great product.
Hawk Cars import the Kirkham Cobras from the US, via Poland... :?They are built by old artisans in a Polish ex-MiG factory! They are alloy-bodied and are staggeringly good replicas.
I'd want a good replica of the real thing and most of the UK ones simply are not. The exception is the Crendon, which is a lesser-known car but is beautifully built and alloy bodies are optional.
From the US, you might look at Sagebrush Roadsters. These are an evolution of the extremely close replica that used to be the Hi-Tech Roadster. They now come in lithe 289 form or fat-bottomed 427 (my absolute dream car :P).
Also look up the CSX Info website and forum. It is full of information about real Cobras, including photos - great for replica builders like I want to be some day.
You could also do a lot worse than look up Thunder Road Cars, Cobra specialists based near Enfield, I believe. This is racer Cheng Lim's establishment and they have forgotten more than most will ever know about Cobra replicas. Good chaps too.
