    Tatton Park

    Hello All,

Took myself, my son and uncle to Tatton Park yesterday, wonderful sunshine, good few stags, auto jumble rubbish, but you cant have it all.

Well chuffed i went though, it give you a good feel of how your stag is compared to other stags and indeed other older cars in general.

so went over to speak to the guys in the stag gathering, how hard:?, all sitting together in a huddle, so not to be put off i spoke to one guy and asked if he could show me the inside of the rear cubby area 'as i have removed mine and am shortly replacing after fabricating my own rear inner hardboard liners with complete success, i can bend hardboardsad i know but i feel cool about it'.Anywayi wanted to see if there where any other clips to be inserted apart fron the two lower brackets asevery other job i have done on mine hasbeen previously undertaken bya fewnot so carefull owners, well what an un helpfull chap the retort "my hood would be in the way" was not entirley expected so with that i walked away and though what i t:X:Xt,all he had to say was sorry i dont do small talk and returned to his huddle,With this in mind, could anyone advise if the rear cubby panels are fixed at high level to the rear bent frame section or is it just the material wrapped around and clipped.

Hoping for a better reply from the forum

How disappointing Rob...unfortunately some people can't be a**ed. I decided not to go to Tatton this year for several reasons.

I'll try and have a look at the fastenings on mine tonight (unless someone on here gets to it sooner).

Failing that I've no problem meeting you somewhere midwaywith my car ( I can be on the M62 in 25 mins) and you can have a look yourself.

    Regards

    Dave

      Hi Rob

Disappointing but expected the SOC club guys who attend these shows can be very clicky as I found when I first joined the club.

The material at the top of the cubby panels wraps around the the pressed metal and the little D shaped clips hold it in place I think about 4 per side.
I seem to remember a post about saddle tan which showed this area on Wendy's car?

HI , the trim on the cubby panel wraps round the metal frame for the seat back if that makes sense and then its clipped in place.

Having read about Robs experience at Tatton on Sunday I thought I would share mine with you

My reason for going, apart from the fact that it’s a good day out ,was to get some information on the mini I am re building for my daughter .I striped it 12 months ago and have forgotten where some of the parts fit ,so my first visit was the mini stand and before I had chance to go and ask if I could look at one of the cars some one came straight over to me asked how I was and was I interested in the mini and did I have any questions ,he then spent about 30 min talking me through the problems I have had (I am not a member of the mini club by the way ).I then went to the Volvo stand and got a similar reception. also from the Tr register but in all fairness Brian was on this stand so I was guaranteed a warm welcome .I then went to the Stag owners stand and I felt as if I was trespassing .

My area is covered by two different areas South Cheshire (Judy Harrison) and North Cheshire (Vera Whitehouse) this show was represented by South Cheshire When I have been to other shows represented by North Cheshire I have always been welcomed with open arms

In my opinion if you have a car on the club stand you are representing the club and the brand (the Stag) in my opinion South Cheshire fail to do this.

THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND IS NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND

The ones off my car are sitting in the house. Would you like me to take some photos? If so, of which section in particular?

              Hi Bruce,

Ihave pattern copied the rear boards, there are a set of approx 10mm holes running along the top edge which match the holes in the steel support, as my car has had more people mess with it than a messing thing I was unsure if the rear clips that holds the rear cubbywhere also fitted to the top of the board to the frame. the small d clips i am okay with.

to one and all though, if you are thinking of replacing your rear cubby panels because the boards are tired, take the time to cut the timber and form it yourself, i was quoted from the only supplier £62.00, cost me £7.00 for a full 2400mm x 1200mm of hard board, bargain.

I would love to attend a meeting but i think i'm not myopic enough.

              Kind regards

              Rob.

I went to tatton as an independent exhibitor on saturday and had much more interest in my stag when placed alongside other
non triumph vehicles than when iv'e shown it in the club enclave, I think people are less likely to venture onto the perceived hallowed ground of a club enclosure than they are to just wander up the rows and chat and photo as they please.
I had one old chap ask me if his nephew, who is blind, could run his gloved hand over the bodywork to feel the shape of the car. I don't think this would have happened in an enclosure and it's something I will never forget.

Me and my wife went to Tatton on Sunday and had a great day out ,sunshine and cars , what more could you ask for.

We too visited the Stag club stand and like others have said there was no one about to ask the odd question to or even have a chat. They were all sat around in a big circle in the middle of the cars, and you felt that yo were being watched and not at all made welcome, in fact it looks like its the same little gang that turns up each show and have a little get together, didn't feel welcome at all and I am a member of this club ,so what joe public thought I don't know?

Made me feel like 'dont get involved' which is wrong when you are a member, got the same car and take an interest in them.

Could be that the age group of all those on the stand was of the older age group and thus not inviting for any younger members to join in, also most seemed to have owned the cars for years and maybe some take it for granted and just a day out with there mates. Not my cup of tea.

I now feel vindicated that is was not just me being a little too sensitive, what a right bunch:?, well i think its a poor show by those who attended, what is the point of going to a show, sitting in a huddle when you could go the pub/park or indeed any where, everyone else i spoke with was more than helpfull especially the guy with the Dodge Charger (4MPG i thought the stag was thirstly).

Also i noticed a few cars with stickers on look but dont touch, has the world gone mad, I let my kids get in and out of my stag Dukes of Hazard stylle they love it, is life not for living or have i missed something, paint your can fix, dents can be pulled, rips can be fixed drive like its your last day and love every minute.

But dont dare invade the stag huddle!!:P:P

sorry you northaners experience this from the stag stands

in the East I think we are a freindly bunch and although we may huddle in a circle we are always pleased to talk and show off our cars. I at Silverstone on two different occasions had families sit in my car to try it out. one for size of drivers seat and the other was to let two young children in the back to try it out. along with details of the club and membership forms I hope the club gains some new members.

At Luton Festival of Transport this year I wanted to get round the stalls but while away my wife told me she gave permission for someone to look in the engine bay ( i think they may of been suprised because its not a show engine bay but they thanked my wife and left.)

This year at Woburn I also encountered a member of the public and gave him an old mag and a membership form and spent nearly 20 mins talking to him about ownership of a Stag. He went away pleased.

I hope all areas premote the club and you only have to ask members from Eastern Region and I'm sure you will get the sameopinion (Hey Martin!!)

                      That should get a reply

Hi Rob, what a rather off putting experience for a fellow stag owner! Although i am one of the less knowledgable of stag owners on here,i would be more than happy for u to look at mine(cubby holes!)

Also, i'am the deputy for Manchester area, and we would be more than happy for u to come to meetings (with welcoming arms).I know it can be daunting meeting people u don't know in a pub,so if u wish call me first to meet up en route/outside etc.The meeting on sunday 5th september is at the wheatsheaf,Higher lane,broomedge,Lymm,Cheshire(30 mins drive from Liverpool?)My mobile no is 07774-710494.

As for shows, yes we do some -but much perfer doing something with the stags that involve driving them!!

                        best regards, Dale

                          Hi Rob and Big Lad,

I am very sorry tohear about your experience on the club stand on Sunday, believe me we are not allt***s and unwilling to help, if myself or Mark (deputy co-ordinator west lancs) had been on the stand you would have had all the help we could give you willingly. We also had a Stag restoration specialist with us so it's really a shame the response you received. Please come to the meeting at the Ship ( 3rd Monday of each month )we need some new blood to help us drag the club kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Hopefully there will be 3 or 4 Stags at the meeting and you will be more than welcome to look over them for any info you need. If i can help any more give me a ring on 07970217961.

                          Cheers

                          Bruce

That must have been pretty disappointing Rob. I think if it had been me I would have told the guy what I thought of him. What a terrible advertisement for the SOC.

I was last month at a car show near Forfar for two days. I stayed in a camp site not far from it. Not far from me were 2 x TR's went for a walk about to see what was what, and noticed two guys obviously the owners. "Hows it going boys" on a few occasions "good morning lads"you know all the usual pleasantry's. Talk about being f****d off by someone. Anyway I made a point of not visiting their stand at the show when I saw them. Some people are basically ignorant and are best treated with the contempt they deserve.
