    1st post

    Hi all.
This is my first post I've been too busy lately rebuilding the old girl.
I realise that it has been a member of the SOC before do any of you remember her : EWN 838K late mark1 in white, last known address was Maidstone Kent.
Looked at several before this one there are some dogs out there!
Bought this off Fleabay back in July it has had some "tarting" but generally looks OK, Engine seem to be in good shape the dif is really quiet. Its just been away for some welding to usual floor pan areas mainly where its been done before but badly. When I first got it having transported on the Friday from Maidstone back up to Andover I just threw it in on the Saturday for an MOT just to see what they found,.... only 3 things wrong, Severely corroded rear Springs, n/s front out rigger rusted, and worn chassis where the drag links go into the chassis. OK not so bad. Well they missed the badly fitted o/s out rigger, I fitted new springs but that put the ride height up by 1". Nothing wrong with the old rear springs some brushing and paint did not cure , they completely missed that the o/s strut top mount that had separated from the shock and it was only the weight that kept it in place! There was nothing wrong with the drag link except that the rubbers had disintegrated. Well its passed the MOT, I now need to re fit the trim and if the weather holds at least get some runs in before winter! The car has only done 300 miles since 2000 and has apparently sat in a heated garage for that time.
Next major job is the soft top its had a new one fitted in May this year, well I use the term "fitted" loosely only where it touches.Got to go the wife wants some doors fitted ...Hmm tinker with the stag or fit the doors? OK fit the doors any thing for a quiet life. Bye.

Welcome to the forum. If you need any advice on the soft top let me know (confused; if it is new why does it need fettling?)

      Chris.
      Thanks for the reply.
The hood was supposed to have been fitted by a specialist!!
However when the front is locked in place you cannot engage the rear sprung catch even if you jump on it its just too tight or the hood has been cut short. Also if you do manage to get it any where near fitting i.e. get the wife to lean on it and nag, when you are sat in the car looking at the top of the B post there is about a 2" gap between the frame and the top of the B post.
I have not tried to adjust it yet as the last time I took the top off the wife caught the corner of the hard top on the boot lid and scratched the paint....I was very good made no comments just stayed very quiet but she is refusing to help now! It will have to wait as I will be away for a few days I will look at it on my return.
      Paul.

OK Paul. Give me a ring some time, I will help you diagnose the problem.

          Hi and welcome,
my top was like this when i first got it, you may find its been stored in the down position for a long time and the creases wont come out. i just wet mine and left it damp for a few hours then it went back down. took a bit of bouncing at first but is fine now.
by the way did that with my hard top as well, bloody annoying. paint wasn't good to start off with, but smile pleasantly and carry on.
          Marcus.
