automatic lub types

checked oil in auto box found it needed topping up.
when i tried to get the types of recommended types of oil could not find exact type shown in handbook,anyway auto factors gave me
" fortech atf 11 d " the guy there says it ok as it is mineral based as opposed to synch and that is what all the listed one are refering to
not totally sure my self so any ideas please as he may be right or may be.....
any thoughts please

Pretty much any of them are OK - EXCEPT 'DEXRON'. A lot actually mention Borg Warner on the package. Martin.

no mention of dexron does say "alkyl-thiadiazole" so can i assume its ok to use?

"alkyl-thiadiazole" is what is refered to as it warns of an allergic reaction on skin.
no mention of dexron anywhere at all so i assume it s ok

I think you'll find that this is a Dexron 11 equivalent John. The 11 is roman 2, as all Dexron is defined.

Dexron is a GM trade name produced over the last25+ years in Dex 11 (1980's?), Dex 111, Dex 1V and most recently Dex V1 (2006 or so). Ford equivalent is Mercon. It's all synthetic (or semi-sythetic) and includes friction modifyers that are designed for use with the fibres used in modern transmission plates and bands.

As such they're all unsuitable really for the BW. However, 11 and 111 will do less damage than 1V and V1, the latter pairmay eat the seals and other rubber parts. On the positive side11 or 111will swell the fibres of clutch plates and brake bands (which may "revive" them for a while)......

If you've topped up with 11, I'd suggest you drain it after a couple of weeks and re-fill it with a true Type F mineral ATF. I don't think it'll do much harm in low volumes but I'd hate you to wreck your BW before we're ready with the 4HP22 kit!

would hate to wreck it thats why i was scared of putting it in!
just cant find listed oils in manual auto factors said it was ok cause it is mineral based.
will wait and see what i can get locally as mail order too eire is a bit of a pig just ordered parts from ld parts 2 days ago.
4 sppeds sound good already keep us posted.
