You should get a workshop manual, but there is a DVD which covers this; makes the job easier (search on ebay etc).

This is a minefield. There are a lot of rubbish parts for sale. Suggest you call Peter of LD parts who will sell you good stuff and will give good advice.

Agree with John - When i recently did all my timing gear i ending up with sprockets (2 x cam, 1 x jackshaft, 2 x cankshaft), 2 x chains (JWIS 104/6), t/cover gaskets from Peter at LD

The chain guides and tensioners came from Paddocks - because, at that time, Peter didn't list the guides on his site - he does now.

I got my parts from Tony hart on his Ebay shop, chain kit and DVD, the parts he sells he uses on his engine rebuilds and his racing Stag engine so they must be good quality.

I believe he uses the County parts that most otherStag suppliers sell, but compare the prices

What do you reckon Blue Mk2?

If you're doing the chains then it's probably worth changing the front crankshaft oil sealand you may need asump gasket and or camcover gasketsjust in case you rip yours removing the various covers.

plus I'll cast another vote for the quality of parts Peter H at LDparts sells

The longevity of this repair / maintenance job is critical to the correct setting of the tensioners.

The video from Hart will help your mate avoid overtensioning the chains.

Do a youtube search on this topic, there are a couple of videos showing different tensioner types and their effect on lubrication and potentially oil pressure.

I had a tensioner bolt break on my engine, rare, but certainly worth fitting new bolts, as the results of a broken tensioner bolt could be terminal.
