    Roger - PM sent.

Mark - I thought the link was going to show me fitting speakers into the cubby-holes not flippin Steely Dan ....only joking with you as I quite like them

Bob - That sounds good. At the moment I am thinking that as I will only have mono it's not worth putting two speakers into the grille right next to each other. If I went the cubbyhole route it would make more sense, but I am not sure how splitting a mono signal into two speakers will sound.
    Hi Ian,the speakers cubby holes.

      Drew, Anyone,
I've just tried trial connecting my JVC radio/cassette/cd player using a similar wiring diagram as that forwarded by Drew. With helpful suggestions by others identifying the ignition switched power supply connection in the driver's foot well off the loom to the console and the live terminals on the back of the fuse box indicated by brown wires for the un-switched supply, I connected accordingly I think. Anyway, the result is zip, nothing, nowt.
      Any suggestions?

these modern radios have more wires than I have had hot dinners

Halfords offer a fitting service but that is only for take out existing and replace for a classic as per the Stag they have declined

I'm planning on putting two new speakers at the back and using the centre speaker on the dash as my front speaker (wired for Left and right)

I've tried the manufactures web site but not got any information.

I contacted Halfords who have no knowledge of the fitting instructions in the box.

so i'm reluctant to purchase unless i know how to wire it up

        any help would be appreciated

        Roger

          Thanks John,
Everything is fully installed, dual voice speaker in the dash top, rear speakers in the cubby holes, electric aerial etc. ect. Just as the saying goes..there's no one home... when it comes to power. I think that's the sticking point. Tomorrow I'm going to try a direct line to the battery just to prove that there is life in the system, I know it worked when it came out of my daughter's car.
How far is only in Clophill from Gloucester? A very generous offer thanks very much, but lets see what other suggestions arise and what my test proves before I my take you up on it.
          Regards

              Steve,
Thanks for the good luck, some must have rubbed off! I checked everything over again, no change. Then I plugged in the only item I had not connected, the aerial, and hey presto everything works!?! Go figure, that's why I steer well away from electronics... brown, green, blue to bits!

                  Hi John,

Sounds like your earth wire was not connected properly/at all, so when you plugged in the aerial it acted as an earth.

                  Cheers....Al

Al is spot on.. You need to connect a thick wire or ideally copper braid between the radio metalwork and a good clean earth point on the car bodywork.
Don't rely on the aerial to earth the system, it will lead to all sorts of problems.
                    John.
