Windscreen sealant, anyone tried this one?

Just had two weeks in France with the Stag and on one particular rainy day, water came in through the seal at the top. Has anyone used this Loctite Superflex Silicone Sealant in black that Halfrauds sell? I am getting a few bits at the weekend and thought I wouldaskand if OK pick up a tube and get messy.

    Cheers

Hi Andrew, you would be better of going to a motor factor who sells professional windscreen sealant, I used the 3M one. it's non setting unlike silicon which would be the same as glueing the screen capping on making it difficult to remove in the future without damaging it. That's assuming that's is what you mean is leaking, if it's the Screen rubber you can also force it in behind it as well, and it's nicer to work with and clean off the excess.

      Hi Ian

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I am after a softer sealant and will try and get a 3M one. where did you get yours?

Mine is leaking slightly through the windscreen rubber seal. I am lucky and don't get any leaks from soft top or header rail, yet.....

      Cheers

Hi Andrew, the only real solution is to get the screen out and re-seal it properly. Find a Stag specialist near you and ask who they use. Probably about £50 but all the pain is taken away ! Martin.

          Hi Andrew,

I got mine from a Motor factor near to where I work "Stockwell Motors" but any such supplier who supplies the body trade should stock it. what Martin says is correct a screen out and re-seal is the correct fix but if you can hold the rubber back and get the end of the nozzle between the windscreen frame and rubber you may be lucky, for the price of the sealant, about £9 a tube I think it's worth a try.

Speaking as a Panel Beater/Painter, Please Please Please; Avoid using Silicone sealer if at all possible as it is the Kiss of Death for any future paintwork.
If a painter was to wipe around the screen aperture while prepping, he would inadvertently smear silicones onto the panel with the result of 'fish-eyes' appearing all over the show.

                And nobody wants that.

I thought I would add this to the discussion, it makes it clear why so many Stags have leaky windscreens. Autoglass did this to mine, the water got in and ruined the immobiliser.
E.J.Ward gave me their guy's number, he removed and re-fitted it properly, no more leaks ! Martin.
