Just received the latest new style V5C in Bright Red. noticed the little tick box on change of owner detail where you could tell them that the car has been scrapped has been removed. On the back page there is a paragraph saying you cannot use the V5C to tell the DVLA you have scrapped the vehicle, you must take it to an ATF (Scrap Yard) and get a certificate of destruction. The next bit is really funny.
Quote
"IF YOU HAVE BROKEN UP THE VEHICLE YOURSELF, YOU MUST EITHER TAX IT (why and how!!!!!!) OR TELL US YOU ARE KEEPING IT OFF THE PUBLIC ROAD BY MAKING A SORN, UNTIL YOU TAKE IT TO AN ATF OR TELL US YOU NO LONGER HAVE IT"
If you have broken it yourself and are left with half a body shell or less an ATF will not give you a certificate of destruction - at least none of my local ones will - and refering to the specified website gives exactly the same info - www.direct.gov.uk/atf
So If like me you have the remnants of several old classics you have used for spares over the years it lookslike it will get more and more difficult to convince the DVLA it no longer exists.
