Just about to take the old girl (the stag
) out for a run last night to show my son the speedo works now and he pointed out a puddle on the drive. Jump out I said and stick your finger in it ..as you do fearing my oil leaks had returned:X it could be just the expansion tank doing its thing
It's petrol dad he shouted, so I jumped out for a quick look myself, only to look back at the car and see it piddling down on the drive from under the middle of the car. Quickly I turned everything off and got the bonnet up.
My petrol delivery looks like this ... metal pipe which brings the petrol along the edge of thetranny tunnel joins to a rubber hose at the bottom of the engine bay and then linked to another plastic pipe which runs round and up to the filter by the strut top. Then further pipe across linking the carbs. Well the rubber section at the bottom of the engine bay had given out cracked and swollen (perhaps not proper petrol pipe?) the clip had shifted and petrol was p*ssing out. As we all know a nice hot exhaust pipe runs along there too!
So I quickly jacked her up ripped it all out and fitted new webcon pipe I had in the garage ( from my fuelwork on the Westfield)from the metal up to the filter, not much room to play with down there but now all safe and sorted. The other section of pipe to the filter was also perished and cracking. It had no markings on so I suspect this wasn't petrol pipe, although it looked as though it had been there a while.
I had whiffed petrol before and had checked the carb overflows but nothing. One the plus side I now look forward to better MPG!
