    Tempted Again

I guess it happens to most of us who are into our cars but now and again I get the urge to have a change from the Stag. Unfortunately I dont have the money or space to add another car to our current fleet so the Stag would have to go. Heres whats tempting me at the moment. Yea I know it will cost me a lot to tax but my Stag is not tax exempt and to be honest has been an absolute money pit this year and I only get to use it for 6 months of the year.

Darent go and look at this because I would be tempted:?, only thing stopping me is the hassle of selling my Stag and the fact Ive owned it 14 years so do have some strange attachment to it.

Hmmnn thanks for the replies guys, trouble is the itch wont go away, cant agree with the "no class" comment but everyone is entitled to an opinionwhich is exactly why I posted the thread.

Im just at a point where Ive started modding the Stag, lowered suspension, quad pipes, recaro seats on the horizon and Ive started to think that after 14 years of ownership am I trying to turn it into something it isnt and would I be better off selling it as a fairly original car and buy something different that I could use all year round. Also I never seem to be happy with the Stag, looking at repainting it over Winter and the constant is it running too hot issue never seems to go away even after 14 years of ownership.

keep the comments coming for or against, guess the answer is to drive to the dealers in the Stag and take the Audi out for a test run and then decide.
My wife reckons the Audi looks like my Stag morphed.

Just checked the Parkers guide and the car looks to be overpriced by about 3k which has really put me off. It is a one owner car 3.2 V6 in a rare colour with low miles but 3k over franchised dealer prices is a bit steep. Still might go and have a look as its only 30 odd miles from me and I love the colour.

              Dave,

Several years ago I was taking my A3 in for its first service and they were shuffling cars in the show-room. Two of them were TTs in that colour (Papaya) one a fixed head the other a convertible. I offered the salesman a bet that they would either fly out of the showroom, or they would be on the demo fleet in 3 months. The latterwas right, it took them ages to shift them.

If over-priced now, then it may be even more difficult to sell on in a year or two when you have got fed up with the 'hairdresser' comments

Already get that comment with the Stag so nothing new there Dave.

Its a good 3k over when comparing to similar "normal" coloured TTs so looks like the itch will have to be left unscratched for the time being as I agree with you the colour would probably hinder a future sale, but I do like that colour on the TT. If the price had been somewhere near the book price for a non franchised dealer I would have gone and tried it.

Dave it would be interesting to compare what you have paid out on the Stag over the last few years with the amount of depreciation you will lose on a new car in the same period.

                  Depreciation index
                  Year 0 Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4
                  Audi TT Roadster 2.5 RS 2dr £46,715 £30,150 £24,675 £20,050 £16,025

Hi Dave, the TT is a hugely competent car, very well equipped, an ace drive and loaded with class, but sadly, IMHO, it's small and ugly - sorry mate. I've been tempted, looking at Merc SLs and CLK convertibles, but when I get back into the Stag, and hear THAT burble, thoughts of air-con and power tops vanish ! Sad innit ! Martin.

suppose it depends on what you want - personally modern cars do nothing for me, they have no soul I suppose.I would only even consider changing the Stag for another classic. The Stag is as modern as I could go.

For years Ive had the same view althoughI did have a BMW Mini for a couple of years as well as the Stag, mandatory company car put paid to that, horrible Vectra now which the company is running into the ground rather than replace.

I guess Ive warmed to the TT because its older now and might one day have classic status (ducking for cover already).

Anyway Im not going to look at it as its over priced according to Parkers etc. Off out in the Stag now which seems to be running Ok at the moment. Just replaced the propshaft with a CV jointed one which has got rid of the rear end clunk and made the car more of a pleasure to drive (just the gearbox clunk to sort now:X). Getting the exhaust off and back on again was a sod of a job but modded it to quad pipes at the same time which Im slowly getting used to as the exhaust note is now much louder.

                            Dave,
to be honest I don't think there is much wrong with the TT, if you like that kind of car, I'd probably put the SLK in the same category - it all depends on what you are looking for. The colour is a bit love or hate though !

The only thing that confused me about your original post was when you said about only using the Stag for 6 months of the year - why not use it all year round ?

All personal choice though, if you fancy a change then why not, after all, despite what many of us say, the Stag is still just a car.

                            .......... Andy

Z4 would be my alternative in that price bracket.Or wait a couple of years for an R8.
