    Hi everyone .

    i have recently bought a 1972 triumph stag. the previous owner has kept records of everything ever done to the car in the 19 years he owned it.the car has a rover 3.5 ltr v8 installed . i have just spent the weekend getting the twin su carbs working. runs a treat now.one problem i have is the ignition light will not go out . does any body have any ideas what could be making it stay on.i will get some pictures up in the near fututre when i figure out how to do it.

    Hi Nitronig, welcome to the forum and Stag ownership (whats your real name). I wondered who had bought that Stag. It was for sale just around the corner from my mother in laws house. Ive seen it on the road but not close up but seemed a bit of a bargain to me.

    I live in Lincoln but there are several Stags in and around Grimsby,two guys in particular Colin and Ian have both bought Stags recently from Cherished Classics and they both live in Grimsby and Steve (SAP) lives on the outskirts. Im sure Col will be in touch as hes doing a great job of tracking down Stags in and aroundGrimsby.

    We tend to meet up once a month at the Woodcocks pub classic car meet near Lincoln on the last Thursday of the month, unfortunatelyI can not make the next meet but Im sure Col will be there.

    Re the red ignition light, sounds like an alternator issue to me, best thing to do is whip it off and get it checked out, think its an easier job on the RV8 than it is on the TR8.

      my real name is nigel short. i have always been into fords mainly escort and currently also have a mint 1975 mk2 escort ghia in white with 24000 miles from new. i am seliing the escort since buying the stag. i just dont have enough room. i have always liked the stag and the opertunity to buy came along so i went for it . the stag i bought is fairly solid. needs a bit of tidying up over the winter.i will get around to meeting you all at some piont. i have afeeling it is the alternator but looks new.

        Blimey Nigel the sale of the Escort should easily fund any tidying up the Stag needs.Mk1 and Mk2 Escortprices are through the roof at the moment.

        Hope we get the chance to meet up soon.

              thanks to all for the warm welcome. i am having trouble selling my escort even though it is a minter. the guy from grimsby contacted me to see if we could do a deal but he was not prepared to pay what i want for the escort. i am dying to get the stag out and enjoy it but i am a bit reluctant to go very far until i have sorted the ignition light .

              anybody want a mint mk2 escort ghia with 24000 miles from new in original condition!

                Welcome to Stag Ownership,

                As for the ignition light try the connection underneath the water bottle on the offside wing. on a Triumph engine car this is normally on the suspension turret, there is a block connector and sometimes these wires breakdown with age like some of the owners nothing lasts forever. Lol

                      And welcome, was that Stag from Lincoln and has a MGRV8 fitted? If so I was the other guy coming to see it if you did not buy it.

                      It looked really sound in the photo's and with some TLC will be really nice even though it has a RV8 fitted

                      Good luck and I hope it gives you many miles of enjoyment.

                      PS The alternator could be the cause of the light staying on?

                        no got no plans to put n o s on the car. nitronig relates to my company/ business . i have a company called NITRO FIRE PROTECTION Ltd. see get it nitronig good init.

                        as for the ignition light it is still on .i have checked the alternater and it workes fine. so i think it is a bad earth somewhere but it could literally be anywhere.

                        yes stustag it is the stag from lincoln. i beat you too it .it is basically a good sound old stag . it does need a few jobs doing to it. i have just had the S U Carbs to bits cos they were playing up.the engine in it is the MGRV8 engine. it sounds awesome.there is a little bit of welding to do and the paintwork looks ok from a distance but up close you start to see that it is cracking and wearing thin in a few places . so i may have it painted in the next couple of years .there is a shed load of paperwork with the car . the previous owner documented everything he ever did to it going back 20 years.

                          it has anMGRV8 fitted

                          the hood is the original one from new.i am not sure of the colour of the hood . i dont know if it should be that colour or it has faded.
