    Modified Stags

The stag could of been a world beater. However, as we all know it was responsible for nearly killing the British economy, single handed.

Since those dark days this below average car has come on leaps an bounds. Mainly to owners modifying their cars. The most beneficial, was to junking that terrible engine and fitting some thing better. Who every thought that it was a good idea to bolt the heads down side ways needs a slap.

Other things have been done to keep this icon on the road and make it better.

What i was trying to do was to find out what owner had done, and what had worked.

I've done some things that worked and others that was just a complete was of time and money.

So anyone who has done anything new to a Stag then enter it here. Pictures would be great as the Stag club tend not to put modified car in.

Nothing wrong with the TV8 if it's looked after by people who know how too and treated correctly, my "STANDARD TV8" is trouble free and what the car is all about about, if you think it's a terrible engine then maybe you should have bought a Capri or Rover

Sorry mate this area is for modified stags.

I got the stag because they look nice, convertible, 4 seats, British and I had a spare rover v8 as most of the Stag had engine problems.

It could have been a good engine but isn't. You can spend a lot of money and time try to stop the inevitable. But you know deep down that some time soon it going to happen, the clock is ticking. (Possilble stopped if its in the Stag)

If you went to the national this year (maybe you did) you would have seen that the old Buick push rod engine was very much in the minority and witnessed a TV8 producing 157 bhp on the RR

You may be surprised that most owners now are changing back to Tv8`s from Buickand ford lumps, as now with the aide of modern technology the Triumph v8 is as reliable as any other engine.

I think you need to do some homework before jumping to conclusions..

You will devalue your Stag if you put that Rover lump in it. It may even affect the handling and ride height as the Rover engine is lighter.

If you have a TV8 in it, leave it. If you want a Rover, buy an old SD1 3500 S

According to the latest Stag mag the supercharged one made 219bhp does that one count as its modified.

Standard 3.9 rover engines would make 190 bhp.

Then Rover v8 wasn't used in many cars was it. Apart from Land rover, Ranger rover, TVR, Marcos, Morgan, Genetta, plus one or two more.

The Triumph V8 was used by loads more Stag,.................................... and the Stag. Well it was junked in the end and 3 Rover Stags were produce to try and stop the rot. But the damage had been done and the Triumph bosses pulled the plug. Not even the mighty Rover could save it.

Why are you telling us this we all know the storys:? that what makes the stag so special it has it`s own uniqueengine.

If you want a fast sports car with a Rover engine like you qouted above sell your stag and buy one.

I understand that people like to improve their cars, and some of the mods I agree with, if need be I will replace my BW35 with a ZF if it went bang. what I find strange is you joined a car club for a specific make then post a thread running the car down and in particular the soul of the car "it's engine" If your happy with your 1950's Buick engine great but to use the term "terrible engine" just shows how ill informed you are.
